91 noms, over $30,000 in sponsorship very little interest in southern riders - their loss, gives me a chance of taking home more than $10 (like last year)
Last years Cup winner is coming back (from Ballarat), 2 coming from Adelaide (okay it's useful Taylah Jennings (also last years womens race winner) has family here), Nathan Graves (equal Qld state record holder for 200) from Toowoomba, Sean Grimes from the Gold Coast. $2k for the winners of both big races, great money for the Kierins and the juniors are very well looked after.
It's on next weekend, i'll try to post up some pics and words after the event.
It's on the same time next year
Cheers
Mick

Good luck for the carnival. Are those numbers typical or down a bit?
Numbers seem to be down across the board down here. Many attribute a chunk of the downward slide to the new layout of the websites and race entry system here in NSW. You can't see anyone else that has entered until you have entered yourself. As an add on to that, the NSW Masters are on the following week/weekend from the cup.

The numbers are about the same as last year, it's just as well the Rocky Club riders support their own carnival so well. Not much coming up from south (don't get me started on that ). The Cycling Qld page lets you see who has nominated with nominated yourself and the Qld Masters (i refer to them as the 'old fat bloke states' as i'm having a crack) is also on the following weekend - a few rocky riders are making the effort to attend. Unfortunately Taylah Jennings has withdrawn.brawlo wrote:Good luck for the carnival. Are those numbers typical or down a bit?

Foo, Ronnie is racing, he'll also be at States. I sat on his wheel the other Friday night in a handicap until he rode away from me in the last half lap
He's an inspiration Ronnie, I'll be happy to be still walking around at his age, let alone racing!
Cheers

I know there is a bunch of ladies from Brisbane heading up, if I'd been able to start track I would have been there too.
Hopefully next year all going well, Mr MM was keen but just a planning issue with work prevented him this year.
Also have to wonder if one week before states isn't a factor as well, the following weekend is going to be a long one and we live only 10 mins from the velodrome..there will be some tired people come Sunday week.
Let us know how the carnival goes.

All, cracker weekend of racing! To be diplomatic, i reached my expectations - that is i didn't expect to take home prizemoney, and i didn't, but i completed all races except one where i had a mechanical so a better performance than last year. I'm still learning the craft and slowly getting stronger. I'm not in it for the money that's for sure. My 9yr old daughter took home $95 without a win but a few 2nds and 3rds.

How good are the Tucker genes??
Foo - Ronnie Hickson finished 4th in the Cup on Wheels and picked up at least one win and some other podiums. The Silver Fox was his usual self - not the fastest rider, but i reckon one of the smartest riders.
RCOW - https://vimeo.com/86808370" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Nathan Graves, what a machine!! That bloke is fast!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf-7na8KNV0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We've got a few going to States (myself for the experience) as well. Given our crop of juniors, we are careful not to put the RCOW on prior to Junior States and thus tire them out before that. It's a tough gig, finding an available spot in the calendar that doesn't clash with other carnivals or states.
Cheers
Mick
