Postby Lots of steel bikes » Wed Feb 19, 2014 8:58 pm

Koen posted this fine collection in another thread.

A well used partially complete 50th gruppo I put in a box a few years back

and a hardly used 600 8sp gruppo I put in a box today
I just got it off a bike I'm "turning into" a px10 with older parts

Rather see them on a bike, and being used as they were intended, personally.
I don't care if it's a $20 Huffy or a $20k Colnago, as long as you're riding, and you're happy.

True, but better displayed than in the trash bin for the recyclers where most end up.
Lot more period derailleurs than bicycles for some reason

The collecting bug is a strange one. I think my urge to simply collect occurrs in inverse proportion to the amount of riding I am doing or am able to do. The boxed parts I have do kind of look nice but really just waiting for the right bike. If you saw my workshop you'd see why I thought they needed somewhere safe to live for a while :)

I always wanted a display cabinet in my workshop.

I've often thought about hanging some nice, but otherwise unused derailleurs of mine similar to those shown on the small boards. But I can't but help think in their default, untensioned state; without a chain around some cogs threaded through them - they kind of look like dried up & dead robot spiders. Limp of life.

I'd want to somehow tension the spring with the arm out at least part way.

This reminds me... I need to tend to my VW badge collection first.

Nice homage to Picasso with a big game hunter flavour. It has become so ubiquitous that it is seems odd that it was considered revolutionary in 1942

That's a very expensive wall hanging.

This looks pretty sick, I wouldn't mind making a few to hang my bikes on.

Apparently each of the seat/bar crest combos are all sold out (AT) EUR 200 if you trace back by other web-mechs.

Some of my parts i get antsy about using, especially suntour stuff. Old derailleurs make beautiful paper weights.

And old shift levers and QR levers make great fridge magnets if you stick a good rare earth magnet on 'em.
Well...if you like bike parts on your fridge or you don't have a shmancy stainless fridge the magnets won't stick onto.
