I had an eBay fail day yesterday - put a low bid on the National a few days ago and was outbid some time later. It was sitting at $21.50 and I was planning to put in another bid right at the end but I got distracted and when I got back to the computer it had ended, still on $21.50.

I was half tempted to bid on a Legnano which finished at $132.50 but really wanted to have a crack at the Apollo VI, which went over my budget and finished at $265
I would suggest an auction sniper program.

I am interested in a pre 65 Speedwell, but don't think I will be bidding on this one.
Apparently it's a Speedwell Popular (but kneel before Bna retro before bidding)
...
Bike would suit a strong rider as it is heavy , zoom in on the chain gauge. (Made for swagmen, not muppet limb'd old hoarders or Brissy hipsters.

I've got a Mitchell very similar to this one. The Mitchell referes to Mitchell St in Enmore, and the bikes are stickered as built by the Royal Blind Society. My one is pretty nice, solid light ulgged frame with good components. I'm sure this Vertex is in the Repco thread somewhere:

Nothing much left though - all the features he mentions diminish its Vertex-ness - forks gone, dropouts changed and powdercoated.

Hehe my draft of that post included something along the lines of "Shame it's missing everything that would make it desirable & worthy of the price tag" but didn't want to offend. Now that you've pointed it out anyway... :P

I'd guess that's the higher end of the scale for that one, but you never know. Looking at the lugs on the headtube i think there's a possibility it could be an Ashby, they're exactly the same lugs as the Ashby i had a few years ago. Maybe Tom Wallace used those lugs as well, i don't know.

Stick a nice stem on it and some new bar tape and that is one slinky ride.

Here's a laugh. A Repco Traveller, "fastidiously restored" and cheap too, now half price at $499.

The bike cost $400 and more than 100 hours to restore
:faint: ... really?
Well, no, it's not a pushbike, otherwise I'd be pushing it...

Tens of thousands were sold, but very few are still in rideable condition. This is easily the best example in Australia (and therefore, the world).
Interesting sales pitch, good luck with that one buddy.

Yea. $400 to restore and that didn't stretch to any kind of bar tape? . And I might be wrong but that FD doesn't look like the right one to me..
