That is the Toxic Path to Nowhere thank you very much.Rhubarb wrote:Gees. Give you guys a toxic path and you're still not happy. Sorry, I find it hard to feel sorry that you have to dodge some sticks and grass clippings when we don't have a single piece of usable off-road infrastructure coming from the Northern Suburbs to the CBD.
Too many people would use them then.

LOL! things I have spotted on the path, A small bit of bent tin plate at right angles to slash your tyres, The amount of glass is unbelievable, the more I stop to kick it off the path they just add twice as much, Builders screws are just everywhere, bits of car tyre where hoons are skidding wheels. A valve tap yes thats right, dont ask me how but yes a pneumatic valve tap, every now and then you get large and small boulders from the rock walls right in the middle of the path and we also get a lot of dirt from the construction that they hose and turns into smelly mud. Quite a lot of other things but would be here all knight.sumgy wrote:I hope you guys get better luck at getting your paths cleaned than Northsiders do actually getting a bike route that needs cleaning.

Things I have found:
Glass
2x4's
Shredded tyres
Stuff that fell out of a trailer
Semi trailers
Cars
More cars
Even more cars
Point is, you have a bike path.
I have nothing better than a painted white line, Often not even that.
Stop complaining when you have a proper specific bike path that can safely get you to work when the Northside has SFA.

Maybe you could approach your local mp about a better path way, no harm in asking, the more people you have the more likely they will do something about it.

Mate I have called on them to do something for years.
Apparently offering multiple routes to the Southside and Western Suburbs is far more important.
Also apparrently we need more than 3 ways to cross the Brisbane River within maybe 10km of each other along with a $10m bicycle flyover at Mogill Road.
Meanwhile on the Northside we get some half-baked BAZ markings and some bikeway that goes East to West so that we can travel between Brookside and Nudgee Beach easily along with a crap load of new infrastructure so that we can go watch the planes take off and land at the Airport.
I have spoken to the local member, and I have spoke to Moreton Bay Council.
MBC basically told me they have no interest or intention of building any form of bicycle infrastructure that is not recreational.
I know it is not your fault but I wish I had your problem.

At least you tried better than a lot of other people have done . Its sad really, pretty heavy with traffic around some areas on the north side. Agree with you about the 3 bridges, what a waste of money.sumgy wrote:OMGosh you are funny.

Not a 100% sure but I think it may have something to do with high populated areas like forest lake, spring field and possible future growth with all multi level dwellings and compact living around the south west. The land was easily available to them for the bike way at the time and not having to buy back land.

There's no infrastructure on the state government or council plans until 2031 anywhere West of Kenmore.
The last rail station for the Western Suburbs north of the river is Indooroopilly.
The only river crossings West of the Centenary highway bridge are a small, part-time, busted-A ferry at Moggill and a flood prone causeway at College's crossing.
The only way in and out is a packed and dangerous Moggill Rd with no shoulder.
So a large chunk of the Western suburbs that don't want to commit suicide on Moggill road must first use cars to get to safe enough roads, let alone the cycling infrastructure.
*EDIT* There's no high schools West of Kenmore either, so those students have to travel motorised transport of some description.

My brother lives there.
Loves it for the semi rural lifestyle but hates it for everything else.
Samford is the same over this way.

I live in Brookfield and commute into the CBD every day by bike (velomobile). 40mins by bike. 1 hr by bus.sumgy wrote:Yep, that area has nothing full stop.hudnut wrote:

Let's face it the Western Suburbs bikeway must have been some sort of historical accident that we should accept as a miraculous event.hudnut wrote:Well, some of the Western Suburbs anyway.sumgy wrote:OMGosh you are funny.

The southern approaches (eg. bike lane on the Jindalee bridge) are horrendous as is the northern end (Dean St and Miskin St crossings etc).
In between it is bumpy and narrow and spooky at night. Could be better but gets you from A to B in a short space of time.
It is used equally for recreation and commuting.
Must have saved local and state government a lot of money in reduced peak hour congestion into the CBD/inner west.
So probably a financial success unlike some other much more massive motorway projects in recent years.
Needless to say it could work better with more maintenance and a bit of work at either end

Whole thing is a WOFTAM.
Towards the Indro/Chapel Hill end of the Western freeway bikeway is like a dog's breakfast.
There is some good news on the horizon though, as far as i know a bridge (for cycles and pedestrians) OVER Moggill Rd is to be constructed.
As for widening the motorway from 2 lanes to 3 lanes - hard to understand what good that will do in the long term.
The disruption to motorway traffic due to widening at the moment is rather massive as well.

That's Brisbane for you, never-ending roadwork works everywhere across this city and now there will be more with the BaT tunnel!
Like tunnels work in this city, so why yet another??
Soon the river will cave in

I think they are sweeping it regularlyRhubarb wrote:Just a word of caution folks - I came home via Centenary bikepath (Western Freeway) earlier this afternoon and there was a lot of spillage on the path around the works. Some of the rocks were as big as golf balls so take care if you're commuting home in the dark tonight.
