Hi All,
Looking to put a groupset on a frame and am looking at the 11 spd shimano groupsets and wanted opinions on whether it was worth while to go for the dura ace groupset (costs an extra $700). If anyone has used both or 1 of these groupsets and would like to offer their opinion it would be appreciated. Basically I am wanting to know if the difference in shifting warrants the increased cost, I know there is a weight difference and I like the idea of getting the bike down to the lowest weight possible but it isnt essential.
Cheers

Both work great, the only real difference is weight. If you have to ask the question, I'd keep the extra $700 in your pocket... If money is no option, buy the best.

What are you using the bike for? Is it going to be used, or abused? Could you justify putting a used DA crank and 6800 everything else - that's where most of the weight difference will be... and a chunk of the expense as well, as the DA crank seems to be 450 new vs 250 new for the 6800. I think member CMM is trying to dump a 9000 crank for 300?
I ride my bike in the rain if I have to, I specifically don't put the lightest tyres on and I picked cement mud off the frame this week. Haven't cleaned it yet... there is little reason for me to buy DA but you might be different.

I haven't ridden either, but have built and serviced bikes with both, and there is very little to separate them from an operational "feel" perspective. The main differences are in materials, which contributes to the weight savings as well as slight improvements in performance. I guess it depends just as much if you want the bold two-tone finish of the D-A or the more understated grey of the Ultegra.
It is worth noting that there have been some cases of the carbon sprocket spiders of D-A cassettes blowing apart. I haven't yet heard of Ultegra suffering the same fate. It still has the carbon spider, but the sprocket attachment has been redesigned from the D-A version, so this may well have solved it. It may also be that it hasn't been out long enough to reveal problems yet.....

I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I've used a Di2 Dura Ace and my current bike has the full DA 9000. There is little difference between them in shifting, only weight. That means in terms of the shifting, they both shift very nicely.RRalphy wrote:Hi All,

I've got 6800 11spd on my CX5 and it's pretty nice! I can only compare it to flat bar ultegra 10spd that being said.
Personally, I think ultegra is good enough for commuters and will give you more cycling joy. Interestingly, it is a false economy to think that I saved myself $700 from not buying DA and spending it on something else. Keep the money for something later and enjoy a top level drivetrain....

answer this, if you do go with the ultegra , will you always regret that you didnt go with the dura ace.
if you can go for it, if you cant dura ace
its as simple as that
