I don't suppose anyone has heard anything about that cheapo Walmart fatty, the Mongoose Beast, making it's way to Australia? There was talk of it earlier in the thread and I tried contacting Mongoose in Aus but got no response. I just want a cheap thrasher, no budget for a proper fatbike.

Cheapest I have seen is

at $850

Probably a step up from the walmart version, though.

Most definitely a step up, but about 4x the price, the Beast sells for USD$199! Cheers anyway.

You put fat on the table for 500, any groupset, and I am in. Somewhat surprising they don't abandon the current BSO MTB paradigm, because poorly inflated tyres, go anywhere traction and low gears kinda meshes perfectly with the POBSO?

2k sounds like commitment to me lol, diamond ring style.

I wonder if the surf lifeguards will be looking for recalcitrant motorbike riders as these things get more and more popular?

Here you go kids... one for the cashed up urban professional who's too scared to drive their Grand Cherokee on sealed roads with with crumbling edges and are basically constrained to the city. I present you the Urban Mini-Velo Fat bike.

That frame looks like it's waiting for an advertising placard. I like this one better but I think it belongs in the Dragsters / Lowriders / Cruisers forum:

The question now is whether this thing exceeds the logical extreme...and personally I prefer the look of the front suspension version - which should have two Lefty's.

Don't waste your time. They already have a more efficient model in the works due for release in 2015

The trike, while stupid, is a legitimate exercise in the appropriate context. Methinks a SS cruiser might have been a more sensible approach... it's a bike to be seen while riding, I'm not seeing this being more practical than a regular phattie...

I'm curious how it would go with two hub motors up front and decent battery. Could make for a legitimate tow vehicle for beach/snow surfing!! Torque steer anyone?

Surely that's a subjective question anyway?

But regardless; I've been enjoying the whimsy of the last few posts in this thread. It's been less of a circle-jerk or marketers/distributors social media indulgence.

If you don't like Fat Bikes or the posts in this thread, why even look at it?

Sour grapes. I'm just jealous. Too bloody broke at the moment to afford one ;)

Oh I don't know about that. The local fatty in our club keeps getting the tyres staked by hard sticks and timber shards that litter our trails...I'm not sure he's enjoying this aspect of Fat.

Well I love my Pug. (second hand e-bay buy) Got rid of the other MTB (nothing special at all). Just the thing. Good town bike, magic on trails.

Fat tyres just seem to hang on like nothing else. Took it to the snow last Winter. That was interesting. Endomorph tyres are not really grippy enough on our wet spring snow (easy to spin out in a climb) as I would have liked, but fun all the same. Tyres with knobs would be better. Loaned it to a couple of friends for plays on days off. They came back raving. It wasn't the only bike up there, but the only true fatty. I won't change the tyres until I need to replace them, and maybe not at all, as the Endomorphs roll well enough on the hard and are a great sand tyre. Good for my general purposes.

It's a keeper.
