Well even with backing from Team Sky I'm not so sure that he's a legit GC contender in the first place. Time will tell.biker jk wrote:Porte to skip Giro.

Winning Paris-Nice last year suggests otherwise.AndrewCowley wrote:Well even with backing from Team Sky I'm not so sure that he's a legit GC contender in the first place. Time will tell.biker jk wrote:Porte to skip Giro.

Going to watch stage 12 to 14 of the Giro. First time at a Grand Tour. First stage is a TT. Any suggestions of where we should go and what we should do?
We have car.

So...can Cadel be up there? He definitely has some form at the moment, has a good team behind him, and BMC have certainly picked up their game in the last 12 months. But can he match the likes of Quintana on the climbs??? Should be some good viewing anyway

Quintana has lost his advantage from last years Tour de France where is was relatively unknown as he will be a marked man. But would Quintana however be focussed on the TDF perhaps and take it easy at the Giro so save himeself.
I remember Evans being a marked man a few years back at the Giro and it was impossible for him to get away. Now the Giro is his main goal and he has been vocal (in his own style) about his goals - so will be interested to see whether he is monitored closely or whether his rivals wont pay heed at they don't think he has it in him.
Apologies if I am starting to sound like a TV cycling commentator, must be getting excited for the Grand Tours.

I thought the opposite might have been the case. I.e. the shorter stages in the mountains blunted his natural advantages as a good climber and descender.Strydz wrote:Evans has come into form at the right time but I see him struggling in the 3rd week, he did a great job last year to finish 3rd but was aided by the fact that stages were cut short due to bad weather (understatement).

I was under the impression Quintana is not doing the TDF this year, instead focusing on the Giro & Vuelta, with Valverde being their main man for the Tour...AUbicycles wrote:barry.dejong - my recommendation is to drink plenty of Barolo. If I remember correctly, it is a mighty fine drop. Can't help you with vantage points otherwise to wish you a fantastic time.

I would have agreed with that in 2011 and maybe 2012 but I think the longer the race the more his aging body will weaken, I would love Cuddles to prove me wrong on that one.cyclotaur wrote:I thought the opposite might have been the case. Stage 1 TTT. Whoevers team is best will be pulling on Pink.
Stage 5. Rolling with a slight uphill finish. Maybe a breakaway stage?
Stage 8 looks like the first uphill finish. Probably not a GC contender stage, someone may want to try and grab the pink jersey though.
Stage 11 has a nice little climb 30km from the finish. Could be another exciting end. Can someone get a gap up the climb and hold on for the decent?
Stage 14-20 is pretty much all mountains. This is where the action will be.
Stage 19, the ITT. 19km climb at 8%! woah...
Then stage 20 finish on Monte Zoncolan. If the race hasn't been decided by the previous mountains and uphill ITT, it will be decided here.
