You'll probably find they'll be available as "non-series" Cyclocross-targetted cranks - they've had 10-sp versions out for a couple of years. These will work with 11-sp too.

There is a 46/36 in the 6800 range. Isn't wide spread yet but would imagine it would be soon with cx season approaching

6800 has 34, 36 & 39T small ring, and 46, 50, 52 & 53T big ring options (46 & 52 designed to pair to the 36T).

I like what I'm hearing there Scott. But Postmans Track IS bitumen though.

The 105 levers, or whatever Shimano's number is for them, would be great. For me I would be gutting the mechanicals. I just want the levers and calipers. My drivetrain would be 8 speed, compact square tapered cranks running barend shifters.

If Dura-Ace & Ultegra are any guide, only the cranks and mechanical brakes will be cross-compatible.

I recently tried a wheel with a 34t cassette with my 2011 105 RD. I was just wanting to see if the 40c tyres would clear my frame ok but .... the 34t worked fine.

A decade of workshop experience has given me plenty of grounding to rank Tektro/TRP (the "T" in TRP stands for Tektro) and Avid/SRAM (similarly, same mob under the labels) pretty low on the list of preferences for stopping the bike.

I've used and worked on Tektro V brakes, cable discs and road brakes and the quality and performance of all of them has been very good, I certainly don't see any need to spend 2 or 3 times as much on another brand.

I had Tektro brakes as OEM on a previous road bike I owned and thought they were ok until I swapped them for Ultegra 6700. Difference was like night and day. Ultegra was streets ahead with stopping power. I had upgraded to Shimano pads on the Tektro brakes which had made them slightly better but the full upgrade to Shimano brakes was much better.
