Strava Stop time calculations

Postby rodneycc » Mon Apr 07, 2014 1:17 pm

Hi All, Being a little bit lazy asking this question instead of looking it up on the FAQ. But just wondering how the Stop calculations work in Strava.

For example over multiple segments am I better off pushing hard right to the end of a segment (until say a set of traffic lights), stop hard and then get a bit of recovery while the lights change (and then push off hard again). Or slow down before the traffic lights (seeing the red in advance), taking it easy and cruise/recover a bit until the light turns green without stopping and then continue through.

Just wondering what method would post the better time??? I generally do the cruise/recover but if the stop isn't calculated in your overall time then maybe that might be better on days I'm really pushing it.

Any thoughts ??

Cheers, Rod.

Segments are calculated on the total time. They do not take in to account stopping time. So your time is always going to depend on when the light changes :p

Yep, only your overall average speed gets moderated by removing stops (if the GPS signal is good enough to detect them). The clock stays running on segments.

Thanks Guys. If thats the case think I'll keep with my strategy of cruise/recover on all segments except the end one where I can blast and then stop!

PS - think I need a nice country ride where there are no bloody traffic lights! Hate 'em.:-)
