Cycling for Daniel Morcombe 12hr- April 13

Postby ldrcycles » Wed Apr 09, 2014 5:20 pm

I only found out about this event the other day and it appears to have had virtually zero publicity anywhere, but still looks like a great event to have a crack at. Especially with free entry!

From the Moreton Bay Regional Council website-

Cycle for Daniel Day aims to raise vital funds for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and their quest for child safety education. The cycle ride will comprise of teams and individuals cycling for part of the day or a full 12 hour period for the fittest. The goal is to get sponsorship for the number of laps completed. There are two course options: short course 1.8km and full lap 2.4km.
All types of Bikes are accepted. Food and drink will be available on the day and there will be some light entertainment. Meet Bruce and Denise Morcombe and visit their website for more information. (NOTE- there is no more information on that website) All donations are tax deductable.
There will also be free face painting and a jumping castle to enjoy.

You get to do a few laps of lakeside as well.... Although I can't see the bicycle brinyg as much fun as the motorbike

140+ laps if i do the distance i'm expecting, although that's only if i can recover from a cold in time.

They did the same last year.
Absolutely no promotion then either.
Sadlyi think they do it via the Moreton Bay BUG which is run by the council which in turn has less than zero interest in cycling.

Stay tuned for a proper BUG in the area son.

I would have to assume so, as there is no mention anywhere of a cutoff time. I'm feeling really good today, just a bit sniffly so i've filled out the form and emailed it :D .

In a racing pack the run onto the straight can be quite fun as you attack on attacks..... but I have my doubts as to if there would be racing packs there :P

So in other words, it would be a good , hard, honest 12 hour ride then. Nowhere to hide!

None of this 'rolling around in a bunch' for 40 mins stuff. 8)

Hey so long as someone gets out there, i'm starting to worry that i will turn up to find i'm the only one who heard about it and then i'll have the organisers staring at me riding around by myself all day :) . I'd still do it, but that would be awkward  .

Then it hits you that you turned up on the wrong date and suddenly you find yourself on the grid for the Queensland Raceways Championship :P

Well fingers crossed for some half decent weather tomorrow, worst case scenario at least it won't be too hot :) .
