Centurion Cinelli Equipe (so seller says) in San Fran on craigslist

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/spo/4431068730.html

The components look pretty basic spec so I wonder.

Not me, no way could I ever fit on that frame size.
I think the new owner would probably like it safely collected before it is identified.

I hope the new owner appreciates what they've scored.

It's probably a blessing disguise for me, I can't really afford another big project.

Yes, I did win this one, with much appreciated help from two forum members in bringing it to my attention and identifying it. It is my size so it will be a valued addition to my collection once restored.

An A.S. Gillott. 1952 Fleur De Lis model with Bilaminate lug construction. Fitted with a pulley for a Sturmey Archer geared hub.

Not that it is particularly valuable (like most lovely older bikes) The cost of restoration will likely exceed its final value, but it is a lovely piece of wonderfully made cycling history that should be retained. I also love bringing this sort of bike back to its original glory. Now, to choose a paint scheme.....

When i saw that little pulley down on the BB i thought it must have been earlier than 70s. What a find!

Nice.

A question. Where is the bilaminate lugs? I thought bilaminated lugs where a combination of fillet brazing and traditional lug work.

Very nice find! I have a 'Spear Point' model track Gillott, they were one of the best London builders/shops until the shop was sold in the 60's.
Tricky to see details of the pulley in the photo but given its position I would say the pulley is there to 'turn' a gear wire for the rear derailleur, not a Sturmey hub gear. Using pulleys instead of guides for this task was quite common with British builders in the 50's and early 60's, often seen on Claud Butlers and Holdsworths.

Thanks Richard. I should have known that having had a similar fitting on an early 60s bike. I have seen pics of a Gillott with the same pulley fitted to a SA hub, but that may not have been correct either. I have a rod operated Benelux FD although may just go 4 or 5 speed, but will need to find a suitable RD and shifter. I have a suitable crankset and a pair of rims, but not much else.

Cheers
Roger
