Heat

HeatI was going to ride to work today but it's just too damn hot and it's only 2.5km
At 8am it was 29C, apparent temp 36C and 87% humidity. I know 29C doesn't sound hot but it is oppressive with high humidity and no breeze. Yesterday was just as bad. We walked up Castle Hill (2.5km up, 2.5km down, about 200m in height) late yesterday and normally we get a good breeze on one side and a gale at the top. Yesterday there was nothing, not even at the top but the view was great. Normally the humidity blocks the view but it was low late yesterday and we could see as far as Hinchenbrook island. We've had very little breeze for a week now. It's like that film "Dead Calm" except we're not on a boat and Sam and Nicole aren't here. Oh, and there's no nasty pasty evil guy trying to take over the boat, because if you remember they is no boat, come on people, keep up! Perhaps its time to get a cold drink.
It's a great look but it doesn't travel well in a drought.
When I went for my ride at 6:00am the temperature was 10.1 dgrees (apparent temperature 9.6) relative humidity 85% (not that you noticed it) winds calm (gusts to 2km/hr) - the sun came up as I was riding, absolutely gorgeous!
Alright, you win today. It may have only been t-t-t-t-t-ten d-d-d-d-d-degrees but at least you got to go for a ride. High humidity at low temps takes the chill out of the air. We'll have to race early mornings in winter and it may get to the low teens, what do you wear to keep warm? Or is that a stupid question? I've never ridden (on the new bike with the colourful clothes) in less then about 18C.
At 10 degrees, I just wear an undershirt with a long sleeve jersey and my usual bibknicks. At the moment, 10 isn't feeling cold, but it seems to get colder after a few successive mornings. Then I add 'superroubaix' longs over my knicks and change to a thicker jersey. When it gets down below 5 degrees, the overshoes and windstopper gloves come out. When it gets below zero ...
I've got stuff on ebay
I was doing intervals for the first time ever on the trackie on rollers last night in a warm room and after drenching my cycling jersey, I switched to a singlet and drenched that.
Can you join a circuit class thats done in an airconditioned room? Burn plenty of Glycogen training log ![]() ![]() ![]() I've got stuff on ebay
All my riding is done in 'air' conditioned surroundings. This morning, the air-conditioning was set to 9.1 degrees and the apparent temperature was 7.9. Now we're getting there! Yes, some parts of my anatomy were very small when I got home!
all i can say is bring on winter. Not that i won't be covered in sweat when i do go to tafe in winter but it will not be so bad.

It was cold in Sydney this morning near home in the inner west, but warm on the north side. Common in Sydney for there to be pockets of different temperatures.

yea i was thinking the same thing to myself this morning mike. Finally a cool day after a hot start to the week with sunday being 10c above average temp for the day and hottest temp for that date on record. I got on the bike and after warming up down along the beachfront i entered the wetlands. There was this arctic breeze blowing and before too long i found myself unable to keep any sort of heat in my limbs. Try as i might i could not reach my usual performance and felt weak for most of the ride and now my neck and shoulders are as stiff as a board. Ive gone riding on some really hot days, hydrating and sun lotion made them bearable but todays ride was far more unpleasant. Ive changed my mind now
Well what a difference. Storms overnight and 12mm of rain.
A few degrees cooler and a fairly cloudy day today but we got a 20km ride in the morning. We had a massive down pour at 9:30am, 42mm in 30 minutes. Wouldn't want to be caught riding in that Flooded under the house and half the backyard and why did it rain? Because I have most of the day off and it was right in the middle of the time we borrowed a trailer to buy wood and rocks for the garden. Stupid weather. We got the wood home about 1 minute before it pissed down.
