BNA Slow? here is why

Postby AUbicycles » Tue May 20, 2014 8:56 pm

Always a waste of time when the hacking starts.

There was a massive wave of hacking attempts to break into BNA and this always causes problems for genuine visitors and members of the site. I am trying to get on top of it but wanted to share that it is again those naughty running an automated hack attempt. Don't know what they would want with a pool of cycling knowledge.

Probably seeking to plant drive-by infection programs.

Maybe it's another would-be Winter Olympic Mogul-jumper flexing his wings

If so, like the other famous multi-millionaire Canadian, sorry Australian, one, they're total parasites on society.

Thanks for the explanation Chris - saves us wondering whether it's something slowing our PC's or internet
connections.

Is this happening again? Pages are loading slow and sometimes an incomplete load.

Thanks for asking. The host did a big change and I have experienced some super fast and super slow pages. Hopefully just a matter of time.

mine is either moderately slow, EXTREMELY slow or times out altogether.

on another similar note, when using the 'subsilver2' theme instead of the standard 'prosilver' it makes every page much slower to load (and that's multiple tries at it, not just today)

Odd, I was going to post that I am not having any problems but for the last hour this site has been either refusing to completely load and hangs or it takes several minutes to complete.

No, but the page loading problems seem to have resolved themselves.

At the moment I am thinking that any temporary issues are do to with the host switchover and this is affecting members based on 'sessions' which is stored data and computers using these to retrieve data from the server which is no longer there (or associated). Clearing the cookies and cache generally with resolve.

For me it's working reasonably well, not slow at all

Very very late night and dreading what I would find today as i couldn't solve it..... only to find that it fixed itself.

All of my efforts suggest a network error beyond BNA, one of the services we use with an inbuilt error - of course I spoke to all of them and none of them had issues (they say).

Still running very slowly for me today (was fine until Tuesday, then yesterday just crapped itself).

A running gag on another forum I very occasionally frequent is that the site is powered by a hamster in one of those running wheel things. When it suffers from one of its frequent breakdowns the excuse is that someone forgot to feed the hamster.

So maybe we're also hamster-powered, and our hamster just needs a feed. :P
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I worked on it for over 12 hours ... it is a real pain. This morning it was fine and now it is chaos.

One thing I did was block a 'crawler' that was sucking out a lot although I have a feeling that the problem is elsewhere... so, lets check out solution #7322
