I've seen similar where I pulled up on the right thinking I was nicely out of the way, but by the time the lights change 6 more bikes have surrounded the car on the left, behind and in front as well, and procede to wobble off 5 abreast across 2 lanes clipping in pedals.

Its like the diversion has created a mini critical mass ride every day.
I do agree, five abreast is a bit excessive, but a bicycle can and is allowed to claim a lane.

What if these five plus people drove their car in? Okay they may not take the same route, but for the argument they did, the traffic line would be 5 cars longer, probably creating another traffic light cycle for people to wait, so waiting is an issue anyway. Bicycles may hold the traffic up for a second or two at most, but not another cycle of the lights. Bikes are good in everyway, and car drivers should have a little more patience, as they are reducing congestion.

I too like to get the hell off Labouchere Rd ASAP, hence I'm one of those sticking to the RHS. I think it is more dangerous keeping left, then wobbling across to duck off the first intersection. Certainly wouldn't be at the front of any cars, either left or right side. Hopefully it won't be much longer before the PSP re-opens, can't wait!!

My wife said that I was just getting fat and unhealthy just sitting in front of the TV and watching golf all weekend. She said that I needed to be more active.

So I took her advice. I now spend all weekend watching tennis on the TV. Far more active, tennis is.

Does anyone know a ETA to when the cycleway will be re-opened?

The southern most closed section was being cleaned up when I passed in the car late this morning, seems to me that it's being prepared for opening up imminently.

Looks like it is slipping again.. JULY now !

From the Main Roads website:

Stage 1 - from the Preston Street footbridge to Hardy Street re-opened to pedestrians and cyclists on 5 June 2014.
Stage 2 - should be completed in early July, subject to weather conditions.

Preston - Hardy Street, wasn't open yesterday either :(

Open this morning to near mill point rd :D And it's beeeaaaaauuuuutiful.. They've done damned well IMO. Surface is excellent, it is MUCH wider than it was before and they have improved the alignment a great deal too to eliminate alot of the corners. Very very good!

The bridge you cross now isn't much chop - especially with the large amount of loose leaf material on the exit which will be loads of fun if it gets wet, but all in all.. Me likey!

Have to agree...sensational improvement!

One or two minor pinch points but no complaints about the surface or width in comparison to what we had. Small shoulder for walkers and nice wide lanes either way.

Happy to put up with a few more weeks of inconvenience if the rest of the path to the Narrows will be just as good as the newly opened section. :D

Whoopy-ding! :D Very nice. Yeah the overpass at Hardy St isn't super great, but it's way less hair-raising than the one at Cale.

Gave it a test run this morning. Yep- on foot not bike today. The extra width it great. Didn't feel so squeezy as the bikes came past. Not going to miss the golf course section either. Yay!

If you have positive feedback consider sending it through to MainRoads via their comment/feedback form:

https://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/Pages/c ... dback.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

People tend to spend alot longer complaining about things than giving praise when someone does something positive and if we show that it is appreciated they may be more open to providing better cycling facilities in the future.

Cut our ride short today and ended up on the path heading north, what a nice surprise. They have done a really good job, looking forward to when they finish the rest.

I'm moving from Mindarie to Hammond park in July, so will trade in the NOR PSP for the SOR as my daily commute, by the sounds of things I'm going to be spoiled, compared to the state of the paths around Warwick, Greenwood, glendalough and leederville

Much better Robinho, I'm in Hammond Park too, and to just jump on to the path then not worry about traffic till you're in the city, or mandurah depending on which way you head is great

Bit of trivia but I was trying to create a map on RideWithGPS today and found that Google no longer shows the PSP between the Narrows and the Como jetty. Big Brother now knows.

I was trying to do the same with Garmin Connect.... won't track along the PSP between Scouts bridge and Narrows... as was indeed the case until this week.

I've had three days on it now.

Looks good. Even though I expect that riders will simply take advantage of the extra capacity for speed, it seems to me to be a lot safer. Less intense bends and better lines of sight.

I note however that a lot of bush has been cleared from overhanging. It would be great if some pruning is carried from time to time. Otherwise the value will be greatly reduced just for want of three or four trims a year. And unnecessary hazard introduced.

All in all it looks good.

Better sight lines than those of a baby's butt? It boggles the mind.
