I've seen similar where I pulled up on the right thinking I was nicely out of the way, but by the time the lights change 6 more bikes have surrounded the car on the left, behind and in front as well, and procede to wobble off 5 abreast across 2 lanes clipping in pedals.
Its like the diversion has created a mini critical mass ride every day.
What if these five plus people drove their car in? Okay they may not take the same route,but for the argument they did, the traffic line would be 5 cars longer, probably creating another traffic light cycle for people to wait, so waiting is an issue anyway. Bicycles may hold the traffic up for a second or two at most, but not another cycle of the lights. Bikes are good in everyway, and car drivers should have a little more patience, as they are reducing congestion.
