What specifically gives it away in the photos? I'm not sure what to look for exactly but in the second photo of the head tube it looks like the top tube is bent up near the joining lug.KGB wrote:Sent a message to kuwahara guy, basically explaining how obvious the damage was and asking whether he was just clueless or a scumbag... Would have been a nice bike once upon a time but selling it like that isn't cool.

I noticed the cracked off paint in the topside of the downtube just above the shifters - I think thats a common spot for the frame to bend in a front end collision.coldst wrote:What specifically gives it away in the photos? That's how I picked it - the crease in the top tube is quite obvious.coldst wrote:What specifically gives it away in the photos? I'm not sure what to look for exactly but in the second photo of the head tube it looks like the top tube is bent up near the joining lug.

Top tube AND down tube visibly creased and with paint cracked just behind the lugs.yugyug wrote:I noticed the cracked off paint in the topside of the downtube just above the shifters - I think thats a common spot for the frame to bend in a front end collision.coldst wrote:What specifically gives it away in the photos? Imagine how and where the tubes would bend if you applied enough force to the end of the fork... that's where and how they're gone
tim
who rode a tandem with creases like that for many years before noticing

Nor a Neil Orrell which looks alright as well and ends soon.
Claud MTB
Doth mine eyes deceive me or is that a wavy top tube?
Repairable? Nice frame if so.

Hard to pick the crack in the seat tube - my eyes must be failing me.rangersac wrote:Repairable? Nice frame if so.
Saw it when first listed - Looks to be a 58cm frame and a bad rattle can fade job.rangersac wrote:This won't stay low

For $80 if I was close I'd grab it. Looks like Everest webbed or batwing lugs. Bargain.

Yep, looks a steal to me. The trimmings don't look half bad either.xerlex wrote:rangersac wrote:Never heard of a Keith Davies but given the internal brake cable routing it can't be bad.

Many older bikes have pretty strong forks too, I noticed the paint cracks on the top of both the top tube and down tube (indicating a front ender, where the wheel is effectively forced under the frame) but the forks on that kuwa didn't seem obviously bent to me. Forks survive impact as the frames bends. Sad.find_bruce wrote:Sometimes the forks make it obvious

If my son didn't already have another Speedwell and an Austral in his garage that he picked up to send down to me in Sydney I'd get him to grab it for me.feelthewheel wrote:Bargain Speedwell for those Brisbanites near Strathpine!! Stop the powdercoat brigade from getting this ...

Not just an Austral but one that was "rebranded" into a Tom Wallace Special.Tinker wrote:I think you need two Speedwells. I'll take care of the Austral for you
