Internal Rattle ?

Hi Everyone..

Picked up a brand new Ridley which I still haven't had a chance to ride due to the recent weather.

I notice every time I pick up the bike and put it on the ground something in what I assume is the down tube is rattling. It does have internal cables but I have never had such a noise on any internal routed bike before.

I have uploaded a video to demonstrate the sound it makes. Certainly not a pleasant noise.

Hope is not something serious.

Just like to know what BNA members have to say before I call the bike shop up..

Could be a stray nipple inside one of the wheel rims that got dropped during building. It's rare but not unheard of.

yep does sound like a nipple. Take off each wheel and give it a bounce. If you hear a rattle then you know it's the wheels. I'd take them back to the shop so they can have the fun task of nipple hunting.

Could it be a floating nipple in one of the rims?

too rhythmic to be a nipple if you ask me.

I'm guessing it's a cable slapping the inside of the frame. try loosening off the rear brake cable (or shifter cables) and bouncing it again.

Bottle cages loose?

Wheels off and still the same sound. Bottle Cages off and no difference.

Loosened the rear brake and still there so it could be the shifter cable but not sure how to loosen it..

Certainly sound like its coming from the bottom tube..

Back to the shop. It could be a 5 minute fix...

i think there is a plastic tube inserted as a guide for the cable, my guess is that the guide is still inside and loose. perhaps. sounds good though

After some fiddling I noticed its the front shifter cable..

When on the small ring its loose and rattles and when on the bigger ring it is stiffer and has less rattle.

5 second fix. Put it in the small ring, loosen the cable clamp (at the derailleur), pull the slack through and re-tighten the clamp.

It must be. I ended up giving it to another bike store. Hopefully they don't charge me a fortune for the 5 second fix.

Could not have said it better.

Picked up the bike and had the cable tightened which fixes the rattle as previously advised. Service was perfect, the manager didn't want to charge me due to a simple fix. I gave him $10 just for his honesty.
