Vintage, yesteryear and retro biking
here's one of mine. had it for a while, and wanted to wait until i had the bars and stem i really want, and the 36h hubs for the rims i really want to use, but i got sick of waiting so i built it up with what was on hand:
78 raleigh team ti pro with 9s record, 7s chorus brakes and crankset.
cables still need trimming, and i know, big dog, crank angle, valves etc. rules schmules. it's a pic of a bike leaning on a shrub. get over it.
big thanks to dayne the main vein for this build, as he sold me the frame and put me onto the groupset.

Few pics of my '74 Raleigh Sport.
Original wheels were heavy and slow, and I'm not a fan of coaster brakes. On there now is the $50 wheelset that Reid was flogging recently (no expense spared!).
Saddle is the original 1974 Brooks, it's deteriorating pretty rapidly though.
This bike is my weekender.

I recently stumbled across this old boys bike... I believe it may be a Raleigh "Flying Girl". It looks as though an owner at some stage has taken offense to having "girl" written on a boys bike and has tried to remove the offending word. The only information I have found with anything that looks similar is at:

New to this forum. Thought that I'd post my newly acquired Raleigh Grand Prix. Sheldon's site info dates it at November 1973, built in the Nottingham factory. All parts are original as far as I can tell, with the excepetion of the Tanaka fenders. All in nice working order too (even the ever-unpopular simplex dertailleurs). A pretty example of a British bike-boomer I reckon.
I am enjoying the 63cmST-57cmTT geo, although, for a bike this large, I was surprise by the narrow (40cm) bars and small pedals.
Came as is, only needed a bit of a wash and lube and replaced the deteriorated cotton tape with some used leather tape off another bike.
Oh and gave the saddle a bit of a soak in Neatsfoot oil.

If I may, I'd like to ask for your opinion on an idea that I have.
I recently acquired an old Raleigh Pioneer Classic frame from a fellow forum member here, and am currently slowing stripping back the paintwork in order to remove the rust present on the frame.
I will post pictures of the frame once I can, but it's the bike seen here, just frame only.
Now to my question...
I have been toying with the idea of converting this hybrid frame into a drop bar CX/commuting bicycle, as I have a few parts lying around unused which could potentially work.
Would this be an incredibly silly idea? Should I just keep this bike as a hybrid? Should I jump off a bridge for suggesting something so sacrilegious?

A TI Raleigh originally bought from a bike store in The Netherlands I believe. Has "Joop Zoetemelk" on top tube.
I have to admit I had to Google his name to learn who he was:
A proper hardman from 70's - 80's and one time Tour de France champion.
There's some interesting old components that I haven't heard of before also: Suntour Volante rear mech, Pelissier Brevette front hub and rear rim is "Van Schothorst".

Being completely new to bikes and the awesomeness of the raleigh my partner found a great bike for me in le hard rubbish collection shop. He wasn't aware of my fondness for foldable bikes as i wanted to be able to pack this away for train rides but knowing i love the old school, he brought home this.
Not sure where to start but knowing the wheels are buckled this is probably one of the first things i'd want to get fixed so then i can take her for a spin but worried about sourcing 22" wheels with a push back brake back wheel (sorry, not sure how else to describe them).
She is a bit rusty and will need a bit of rechroming and a respray but i love it already and will slowly get her to her former glory(provided I haven't bitten off more than i can chew)!!
i think they sold quite a few of these europa's with zoetemelk stickers. there was a(n) europa at pushies this year. identical colors to the team ti, except for a yellow headtube instead of black.
yeah the raleigh europas'. There were a few I saw on Ebay Greece that was Reynolds 531. not sure if they did 753 but what tubing is yours simonsausage? is there any numbering system down the bottom bracket? I thought pelessier hubs were pretty decent back then, but someone must've done some tinkering with the bike due to the mixture of components?
Sorry for late response guys - went on holidays and neglected my forum responsiblities.
Looks to be a fairly low-end frame from what I can gather; no serial numbers, 20-30 straight gauge tubing and nothing on the dropouts.
Seems to be a funny mix up of parts- the rear hub is Ofmega. Left crank is different from the driveside.
Don't know what I'm gonna do with it. Maybe clean it up, take it for a spin then hide it in the shed...

Fellas, for many years I drooled over my best friends Raleigh, but since those early days Ive never seen a similar Raleigh, just wondering if anyone knows what it could have been....its been 30+ years but here goes..
It was painted a magnificent light blue/ pearl, suntour groupset...superbe from memory, suede kashimax saddle, down tube aero shifters, there was no writting on the top tube..but it was definetely a Raleigh and was purchased in 1982, thats all Ive got
