Arrived 8:58. Bunch didn't wait. Someone yelled the route as they rode off.
Chased Richmond to Cambridge to get on at Cambridge. Course today was Richmond-Cambridge-Seven Mile-Midway-Penna Rd-Brinktop-Tasman Hwy-Fingerpost-Richmond. Everyone stayed together, soft pedaled the entire course until Fingerpost. Pace remained around 30kmh. Once onto Colebrook Rd the pace went 35+. Very short sprint at 150m to go.
Distance: 57.6km
Time: 1:47:46
Avg: 32.1km/h

It was a cool day in beautiful Richmond this morning with most of the assembled peleton well rugged up. At the allotted time we headed off on the traditional course out to Back Tea Tree and return. Late arrivals in Christian and Rod soon caught up.

The ride was nicely uneventful after that with short waits for regrouping. The pace picked up a bit on the way back. Cyclone Sam, Christian and Loges rolled over the line together with the pack chasing hard. The rest of us straggled in in our own good time.
Distance - about 60
riders - about 14 I think
time - dunno
average - dunno
Coffee was good as always with the recovering Brian the Elder joining us once again.

A reminder for those interested of the ride on Friday to view the Derwent Valley autumn leaves. Leaving from Tynwald Park at 9:30 and doing the Ellendale Hamilton loop at recovery pace.

Another glorious autumn day greeted the assembled starters for today's ride. The first bunch with Denis the elder headed off up towards Cole Hill early. A mistake was made in telling some of the rest where we were going resulting in a few taking off early to get a march at Brinktop first.

A glorious day it was but it was a little cool to start with and a gentle northwester made its presence felt for those brave ones on the front of the bunch. By the time we got over Brinktop we all seemed to have warmed up  so off down the hill and a regroup before the trip up the highway, onto Fingerpost and another regroup at the top found a broken pedal for Cyclone Sam. A right turn towards Cole Hill, a minor mechanical, the loss of Sam and the bunch was split again. A bit of hard work saw them all together again. The pace went up and the bunch gradually whittled away as the hill was attacked at a good pace.

The regroup at the top was a reduced bunch as the rest had turned early and headed for coffee. The pace on the way back was solid from the bottom of the hill. The lead was shared on a regular basis and a Strava devotee was suggesting the trip back from the bottom of the hill was at 42kph with the last 10kms done at 47kph. Well done Christian and Rod as the main drivers.

Brian the elder joined us for a coffee and the chat went on for a while without any discussion of the budget :D

For those interested the ride of the falling leaves around the Ellendale/Hamilton loop on Friday saw seven starters. The fog was there again this year but not as thick as last year so we could see the leaves this time. No falling leaves though - no wind. A nice ride in the freezing cold. Next year! The ride was a tick over 100kms and done at recovery pace - nice.

It might be a retake on most other Richmond Wednesday mornings - but - it was another beautiful autumn morning in Richmond as twenty riders turned up to try out their cold weather gear on the day's course. The main bunch of 18 headed off on a figure of eight course - out over water tower, along Back Tea Tree and back to Richmond. From there we kept going and turned into Prossers Road for a change. There is a dirt section on that road and it would be reasonable to say it is generally smoother than most of the local bitumen roads.

A quick stop along the way to tighten my saddle and the bunch split - those looking to get back early turned right on Fingerpost and headed for an early coffee - or work, and the rest headed towards the highway. Some discussion at the turn and the course was amended to return via Fingerpost rather than Brinktop so our figure of eight just didn't happen.

A good ride all up. Everyone chased Christian's wheel and everyone got home safe. Ah - the serenity. Next week?

The weather treated us well yet again for our weekly sojourn around the roads of Richmond. Twelve eager riders fronted up to learn of the course - and that included Brian the Elder returning from his "off" of some time ago. Ribs healed. Lung resealed. Chapeau.

With the mild weather holding it was time for a trundle around the Baskerville circuit and with a serious lack of "fast" riders the course was attacked at a sedate and comfortable pace. Grass Tree first and then the east derwent climb - at which point Brian the Elder turned for home having pipped a few for points over Grass Tree. Up over the Baskerville climb and more regrouping and then past Bonorong and onto Tea Tree Road. The slight head wind now became a nice helping breeze and the train lines at Tea Tree approached.

It is rare that the secret plan of attacking at the train lines actually gets any notice but it did today and the sedate pace changed markedly as the legs were stretched a bit. A regroup at the top of Water Tower and everyone was off again at pace. PMM Man hatched another of his regular plans - attack at the junction of Richmond Road. Apparently this was followed by "go hard for a click and see what happens". Hmm -I didn't hear that bit. The attack was duly executed and PMM Man lasted the click and disappeared. The breakaway was then four in number and survived to the finish where Daisy pipped Tony to the line and we decided that there were just too many cars around to join the fun.

As is required for RBWR the rain started about two minutes after we finished and disappeared soon after. Another three regulars joined us for coffee which continued on for a while as the various nuances of the ride were dissected and re-lived a few times. Next week - I reckon there'll be a ride in Richmond leaving the car park at 9:00:00.000

Another glorious riding day in old Richmond town again today as a dozen riders turned up for a Wednesday race. Disappointed they were as we all rode at asteady pace for the majority of the traditional course out to Back Tea Tree and return. Special instructions were given to Daisy on where to turn left and to Brian the elder not to fall off on the duckpond descent!

All went very well with only minor waits for regrouping although the regroup at water tower on the way back only created a peleton of two. The roadworks near the town boundary continue to play havoc with those wanting to sprint. Points went to Daisy this week. Coffee and chat was good as always.

Another glorious Wednesday morning in old Richmond Town today. It was a bit cool but no breeze to speak of. We started with sixteen riders heading up Brinktop to get warm to start with. Over the other side around the Penna Rd loop and up the highway to Fingerpost. As we got to Richmond Road the numbers reduced as a few bailed. While there remained little breeze it was hard work on the front. The air was a bit 'heavy'. Left onto Back Tea Tree, Malcolms Hut and then back for coffee.

after all the perceived hard work done by the boys on the front we only manage an average of around 28kph. It sure felt harder than that for everyone. Coffee chat was great as always.

Now that I have recovered - the ride report.

Another beautiful day in Richmond greeted the starters. It was raining in Hobart town and it looked like rain northwest so we headed north - with 16 in tow - up Middle Tea Tree and then to the top of Cole Hill. With Christian on the front the pace was nicely steady into the slight head wind. No-one seemed to keen to go past him for most of the outward journey. The roads were dry and then the roads were wet and then the roads were dry again. We remained dry and the pack assembled for the obligatory mountain points sprint. Well done Christian.

And back again. This is usually a smash-fest on the return from Cole Hill and it was no different this time. The pace went up, the pace dropped off, and then up again as the klicks ticked by. The peleton managed to stay together for all bar three of us. And the win - Brian the younger - well done. Coffee chat was as good as always.

Just for old Mr blackboard Master6 - today's report.

Another glorious day in old Richmond Town greeted the assembled 16 riders with clear skies and a light breeze coming in from the northwest.

The choice of course was an old one revisited and, given today was our last chance to use Middle Tea Tree in its current format, we headed out Middle Tea Tree in pursuit of a couple of early starters.

For some reason we copped a bit of traffic of which most got by okay. The green 4WD driver was in no mood to wait for a clear space to pass and accelerated past us at speed. Luckily the car coming the other way was able to get off the road enough to let the idiot through. We'll have to keep an eye out for a registration number next time as this is about the third time this sort of behaviour has occurred.

We caught the early starters at the turn onto Tea Tree road as we headed into the freshening breeze and darkening skies. By the time we got to the Back Tea Tree turn the back bunch had doubled in size and the front bunch was heading for the train lines. As every knows the standard attack format for PMM Man is to wait for train lines - and attack - which he duly did. The bunch split and we sailed uphill faster than we were to be going on the way back.

A right turn put us on Grass Tree Hill road and, when PMM Man rejoined, we headed up hill at a pace. Slow is a pace for some - fast for others. Another regroup at the top. Another regroup at the bottom. Back we went into the solid breeze which kept the bunch together with the strong men at the front sharing the load and the rest of us grovelling along behind. Back along Tea Tree Road we went all very orderly until we got to ... the ... train .... lines! And guess what happened! The irrepressible one was at it again getting a substantial break on the peleton and holding it for quite a while. Its probably a pity the peleton weren't actually trying to catch us! A quick sprint up Water Tower for another regroup and off again to Richmond for the final points on the ride.

The wind wasn't helping anyone by this stage with it coming side on it made it all very hard work. A surge after Fingerpost split the pack and two then three then four got together and sat behind Stuey while he wore himself out getting the pace up into the 50s close to the line. I had nothing left so it was down to Daisy to take the surge to the line followed by the fast improving Tony.

Rossie was in the pack today and Rossie didn't win    It did happen once before but that was a long time ago.

Coffee chat was good as always - the good weather is expected again next week.

Is there still road works along Middle tea Tree?

Richmond has increasingly become busier in the past several months and looks to be continuing. The Clarence Cycling Council Committee have conducted a study into how bus the roads have become. Tea Tree, Back Tea Tree and Middle have all become busier with trucks especially and vehicles now try and avoid Colebrook Rd now and the road works along there.

The sealing has been completed on Middle Tea Tree. Not painted yet. The Councils spend a fortune on this road. Maybe they should upgrade the drainage to save themselves a bit of money.

The works to get the traffic from Richmond Road onto the Richmond bypass start next week so the current junction from Richmond road to Middle Tea tree Road will be out of action. Traffic will have to go through Richmond and back-track along the new bit to get onto Middle tea Tree.

All of the roads around Richmond are getting more busy over time - as probably everywhere. That is not generally an issue for us as long as everyone does their best to keep everyone moving where safe to do so. Our green 4WD isn't in that category!

You might be surprised to know it was a beautiful morning in old Richmond Town and the RBWR left at 9:00:00.000. A tight knit peleton of 15 headed out on a flat course over water tower, out to Brighton, and then towards Broadmarsh to the 30km point and then back. There was a bit of a breeze running so the pack made every effort to hide behind Stuey and Scotty whenever possible. And then the turn and with the wind at our back the pace picked up. A regroup at Brighton - and then - well - carnage. The bunch split, regrouped and split again with Stuey and Scotty finally getting away and staying to the finish. The rest of us did the best we could.

Brian the Elder was awarded the sprint points - but - perhaps turning around after 10kms was not in the real spirit of the event. The assembled panel of commissaires were unable to split Stuey and Scotty as they rolled over the line so they share the honour knowing that no-one else really cares. The rest of us dribbled in as and where we could.

Coffee chat was as good as always with everybody picking their winners for the second most important ride of the year - Le Tour. We would probably have a team entered but we would have to miss 3 RBWR rides and that just isn't on.

And yet another perfect riding day in Richmond Town today. There was a bit of competition for attention today with the Tour highlights on at 8:45 and a bit of a soccer game going on in Brazil but we still managed 11 riders to enjoy the outing.

The roads were a bit damp to start with and there was no wind to dry them out but we tapped out a sensible pace anyway. Up to the top of Cole Hill for a regroup and then back to Richmond via a loop of Fingerpost. It's always a lottery as to how many actually make the turn on to Fingerpost and today we had only seven left in the bunch for the journey with the others obviously worried about making a left hand turn!

PMM Man was at his irrepressible best making plans and forging alliances wherever possible. As usual they had no impact  ScottyB scored the points for first over the line after Stuey finally wore himself out on the front.

Another three regulars appeared to join in the coffee chat as we dissected and analysed the efforts of the Tour to date. More to talk about next week!

Well, its the official middle of winter and its supposed to be horrible, cold and wet. But not in old Richmond Town today. A balmy sevenish degrees greeted the assembled throng eager to get going. The early starters got a march on the rest of us and headed off early while others waited patiently. So, with a minute to go the course was unveiled. Three new roads for the RBWR today.

The first came up straight away as we used the new Richmond bypass to get to Middle Tea Tree and then off to Brighton and Broadmarsh Road. The lazy breeze coming our way dropped the temperature a few degrees suggesting there was a bit of snow somewhere on the highlands.

The second new road was a left turn onto Millvale Road, just short of the first bridge, which headed us towards the Derwent. We finally caught up to the early starters and kept going. A couple of clicks of nice uphill dirt got us to the top and a regroup was had followed by a nice downhill. Now that might be an interesting climb coming the other way - hmmm.

The third new road was Boyer Road. An often ridden road but a first for RBWR. A lack of chat here led to one of the early starters being left behind - the others had turned back at the start of the dirt. Not good and apologies to Rob.

The race proper started on Middle Tea Tree Road - as it always does - with Stuey scoring a win. The lazy breeze was hanging around so coffee chat was a bit short today - but was up to its usual high standard.

With PMM Man interstate collecting some quality beach sand for his reinforced tubes there was going to bee a lack of devious plans in the peleton. We had 14 riders right to go in two bunches.

The main bunch headed to the top of Cole Hill for a regroup ready for a return via Fingerpost and Brinktop. As seems usual these days the pace picked up significantly and then got faster. A couple of riders went off the back and ScottyB decided to slow things down so they could get back on. Perhaps a touch of wheels and consequent fall might have been a tough way of doing it but he is tough!

the intent sort of evaporated from there with only five doing the full course. Most of the coffee chat was done by the time we finished but sitting in the glorious sunshine made up for it. Things should be back to normal next week as PMM Man eturns.

Another glorious day in old Richmond Town today. Bright sunshine, warmish and a gentle 30knot breeze floating through. The traditional course today so the peleton threw themselves into a well drilled echelon and worked hard into the wind all the way to Back tea tree. A loud sigh was heard as we turned with the wind and flew to the turn. Plain old hard work on the return with down wind all the way from tea tree.
As is tradition the pace got up on the lead in to Richmond with ScottyB leaving the rest for dead. There was a flurry of activity behind but try as i did i couldn't do better than last place - which was also second!
It was a hard day out with the trip taking 30 minutes longer than normal. We could have done with some help. Maybe next week

RBWR Richmond. Beautiful weather. A bit breezy. Peleton of nine. One puncture. One broken derailleur. The usual breakaway from PMM Man. Another win to ScottyB. Great coffee chat. All is good in the world.
