Would anyone be keen to lend one of their older bike's to a really keen person? I DON'T think a repco anaconda will make it (well, the rider won't at least on one of those pos's) and neither will my electric bicycle.

Or would you know where to rent a really good racer/road bike?

Thanks!

Anyone planning to ride the round trip?

I'm in training for a 250k in Nov and Oct 12 would be great for a 200k, but it'd be a nicer ride with a group :D ...any takers?

Forgot to mention, just stipulate the conditions for borrowing! Hell, I even got commendations from QPS last ride I did!

I'll be there, just hoping it's not blowing hard from the south on that day!!

How effective are the speed brackets? Is the ride fairly free flowing or is there a lot of slowing etc due to slower riders ahead?

i've never done it before but i imagine it will be like the MS one where they let about 200 riders go at a time separated by about 3 or 4 minutes...

for a ride this size they will need to let more go, more frequently i reckon...

once you get past the start and the first 3 kms it usually opens up...
that's my thinking anyway!

I'll be there!! I've only done relatively short rides around town so far, but am doing Cycle Queensland next week (600km in 8 days) so should be ready for the 100km...

I did it last year and thought the speed brackets were rubbish!!! I started out towards the front in what was supposed to be the fast brackets and got sick of going around people riding 3 wide down the bus way at 20-25km/h

That bus way is really nice and smooth. Very nice if you can get a rhythm going!!

For those that haven't done it before be VERY careful coming off the bus way, it's nice and flowing straight into a sharp turn left with a change of surface in the middle of the corner.

Sorry, new to the terminology, the speed brackets means the times they send you off according to the speed you put you could ride? That is, if you said you'd do 20/25km/h you'd be placed in that group and will send you off accordingly... not sure if I'm clear. But if that is the case, do you mean that people put they could go at say 30km and they couldn't go that fast?

Basically, yes. I might even go so far as to say that they never intended to go that fast, they just wanted to get away from the start early as it does take a while to get every over the start line.

The start has signed areas in which you're supposed to put yourself in the grouping of the average speed you are going to ride. These are set up the fastest closest to the start and then going back from there. The exception to that is the team riders of the sponsoring companies, they start right on the front.

In saying all this though I think I need to chill a bit more at the start, but it is rather tempting on that nice smooth bus way to let the legs go and get some speed going!! :D

Hi guys and gals,

I've registered for this event, but I haven't cycled a bike in over 2 years.

The site recommends a training program of cycles and rides I should to to prepare for the distance, but can anyone here point me in a better direction for training advice?

For the last two weeks I've just been in the gym, spinning away on the stationary bike watching fox sports!
I wouldn't mind a bit more guidance from some of the more experienced people on the site :D
