I rode from Brisbane to the Gold Coast the other day as "fun", boy was I wrong. I do hope to enter this event though, and just take it nice and easy :)

I've registered for this event, but I haven't cycled a bike in over 2 years.

The site recommends a training program of cycles and rides I should to to prepare for the distance, but can anyone here point me in a better direction for training advice?

For the last two weeks I've just been in the gym, spinning away on the stationary bike watching fox sports!
I wouldn't mind a bit more guidance from some of the more experienced people on the site :D
you have like 4 weeks to prepare.
just do some stages...like a 40k ride, then next week a 50k ride and then a 60k ride and then maybe a 70k ride.
i am preparing for this event atm and feel so weak. but the fact that i will get to draft and have some psychological impetus (ie other riders around me to tell me to HTFU) - that helps a bit.
and plus i am gonna eat and drink like there is no tomorrow.

I contacted BQ to see if they would post the route on Bikely, but they said that it was pretty much the same as the 2006 route that is already on the site:

"Hello Tim,
A version of the route is already on Bikely - it's the 2006 ride and this year's event is pretty much the same but without the detour to Jacobs Well. Check it out and see what you think.

Regards,
Jane Clarke
Admin Mgr"

The Bikely route is http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/20 ... enge-route

Do the shorter 60km ride!!!

It's actually not that hard of a route, it's pretty flat.

You'd be surprised once you start riding with 7000 people how quick the 100kms will go...as neil13 said do the 60kms if you dont feel confident...

At this stage it will be the train, BQ have a bus that runs back to brissy with the bikes taken back in a truck, im also looking at that option...you should get the missus to pick you and make a day of it...this should give you some good info...

I'm getting the bus back as well.

deks, there's rest stops from memory at about 40 and 76kms which help break the ride up.

Hey Tatt2 - I noticed your sig says OCR3 07, is that a Giant and your bike I take it (?). If that's the case, mine is also a Giant OCR3!!! and probably a 2007 as I got it in March on a special. Although mine is smaller since it's the female model. Awesome bike though!!!!
Sorry, completely unrelated to the topic... I might as well say something about the challenge...ah! CAN'T WAIT!!!! did a 65km ride on Saturday and wasn't tired afterwards so i think I can take it!

I'm coming up to it with some guys from our Brisbane office. I seem to do more of these organised rides in QLD than I do in NSW! Cootha Challenge, Bris-Noosa century, now this.

Looking forward to it.

Yeah it started out as a Giant OCR3 has some 105 running gear and shimano wheels now, soon will have compact cranks and 10 speed with 105 shifters, might have to call it a OCR special

Does anyne know if you can move up to the next group on the ride? I mean, if I find that I am riding faster/slower than the group, can I just go at my own pace or do you have to stay in a group?
