Hi Harry don't know Budda's but if I get the chance I'll give you a star rating,Uba Tracker wrote:Most envious Steve, Straddy's a beaut spot. Is Buddha's up there on the hill still the place for a good breaky?

I haven't been to Straddie for about 10 years, last time was a club ride with Southside Rats MTB club, we went up past Brown lake & Blue lake then up the sand road to Cylinder beach, it was a great ride with a few fresh water lakes for swim stops along the way,
I would recomend it but you need to travel light as their are lots of soft sandy spots that require pushing.

Hi all, wheeled the bike out of the garage about 9am appalled by the weight of my loaded bent, headed for the Cleveland ferry 27km away, arrived in plenty of time to buy tickets ($19 return) and catch the 11am ferry.
Nice coffee shop on board so we were able to refuel on the 50min trip across Moreton bay.
At Dunwich we waited for the cars to disappear then headed off across the Island to Amity, first 5-6km rolling hills with exellent views of the ocean to our left, then the road moved away from the coast and started climbing. Amity turn off is about 15km then a long down hill back to sea level.
Amity is very quiet with nice views back across the bay and out to sea.
Our map showed a road going directly from Amity to Cylinder Beach but was sign posted as closed to traffic, we made enquires and were told it was a sand road and ok for MTB's. We decided to give it a go with our loaded up bikes and slick tyres.
It was 6km of sand and dirt road it took us at least an hour but we had a ball and arrived at the main road with smiling faces and only a few km's to go for the day (later found out the road is known as Claytons road).
After collecting our gear we headed back to Dunwich, the road out of Cylinder Beach is mostly a long steady climb until you get near the Amity turn off, then downhill or rolling back to Dunwich.
Caught the midday ferry then headed home in traffic that seemed heavy after the quiet roads on the Island.
I would recommend Stradbroke as a great weekend ride, Traffic is light and the roads in good condition.
If you don't like the idea of riding to Cleveland the Train Station is only 3km from the ferry.
This has been my first unsupported overnight ride on my recumbent and will be planning more soon.

Next day we left our gear at the Hostel and rode up to Point lookout for breakfast (sorry Harry but Buddha's is no more) and take in the early morning views.Uba Tracker wrote:Most envious Steve, Straddy's a beaut spot. Is Buddha's up there on the hill still the place for a good breaky?

Hi Chong yes it was a top weekend and the Cruzbike was very comfortable, the handeling felt a little strange at the start but after 10 minutes I did'nt notice it any more.Low Racer wrote:Hi Steve,
Thanks for sharing your pics. Looks like you had lots of fun. The Cruzbike looks like a very good touring bike. Do you have any problems with soft suspension at the rear? What's the ride like with a long tour?
Regards
Chong
The rear suspention was fine and I could feel it moving on fast down hills.
It has a 750lb spring but the dampning is shot. (old shock off my KHS MTB) must start looking for a new shock.
Touring with a load was fine but my 22/28 granny gear got more work than it's used to on the long uphills.

It was a top weekend and no Magpies must have been just before the start of the season.PEDALPOWER44 wrote:Hi Steve great photo's sure looks nice over there I was over there myself a few years back looks like Denis & yourself had a great time.Tell me did you get attacked by the black & white marauders over there??
