Only actually looking for $35 million as council has $15 million set aside for it.

Supported at all levels of council and government and look like they are going for funding by the end of the year for it.

Apparently there will be a big launch in Newcastle of the push for funding in July sometime.

$20 from me. Loved the comments following the story, by the way.

And the comments are good again too.

Wouldn't you think the "anti" mob could come up with some better arguments than "rego, lycra and riding wide on the road" by now? I mean, they've had decades and yet the same old hackneyed sentiments are trotted-out every time.

This is awesome news if it does go ahead. It will make cycling around Newcastle safe and easy. Looking forward to it.

I had a giggle at the comments as well, research shows something like 70% support for it and all local members are scrambling to be associated with it which is good. The promising thing about it is that the big sell point is the economic sense of it, that is something that government may listen to so fingers crossed.

You can download the full proposal here.

It would be nice if they could do it in the five years they say it would take to roll it out but somehow I just can't help but think that is a little optimistic. We can only hope.
