hiring bikes in europe to ride some mountains

Postby jimsheedy » Tue Jul 08, 2014 10:14 am

Heading to Germany for a week in late August. My business partner and I plan to stay on for a couple of weeks and ride some large hills. Ventoux and Stevlio are on the list plus whatever else takes our fancy. I know we can hire bikes in the areas of most of the famous climbs. Wondering if it is possible to hire bikes for the duration?

Can't see why not? As long as you hire it for a period and return to the same location...

But if traveling through Europe with the bikes, why not just take your own?

Some years ago we had a slideshow presented at our club by a group who went to Europe, skiing in Norway, then hired bikes and panniers in Germnay and took them by train to Italy and rode across the peninsula - Pisa to Rimini or something similar. The bikes were then returned to Germany before they flew home.

So yes, it should be possible.

might be a little late, but I can recommend pro velo in Annecy for hire:

I hired a great bike from them for a few weeks which allowed me to hit a lot of climbs in the alps and mont ventoux.

Ah good news!!

The galibier is an absolute highlight, don't forgoe the opportunity to do it.

Glandon is a bit of a best as well, if you do it make sure you continue on to the croix de fer, amazing views
