Blowy commute in this morning indeed. Not much difference in ride time (48km yesterday vs 48km today and there was less than a minute's difference in ride time ).Sweep wrote:50km/hr winds in the city. So much fun!

Today (Thursday) the wind was shocking. Made for a rather unpleasant ride down to North Cronulla which was more of a chore than anything else. Quite a contrast to Monday; I did the same ride and got to South Cronulla in the same time, and couldn't tear myself away from the beach to come back...Boognoss wrote:Blowy commute in this morning indeed.

Last week I did a 32km return trip (so I was at most 16km from home) when I finally got a puncture... 250m from home on the return leg!
Needless to say, the next day I dropped into the LBS on the way into the office and purchased a few new tubes, levers and a pump!
Another blowy ride today but went some way to compensating for the Yum Cha at St George League's Club.

That's bad luck. I managed to sneak a short ride in when the radar showed a clear sky around midday. A different story last weekend when it rained for almost half of my Audax 400km ride.g-boaf wrote:Gawd damn - rain. I was absolutely drenched today. If I didn't get held up fixing a puncture I might have avoided the rain shower.

Rained at my place within past half hour. Rain heading east to west which makes it tricky.Hergest wrote:The radar is showing just scattered showers so worth a punt i reckon.

This chap and the householders below weren't so lucky. On the James Ruse exit of the M4 it looks like a b-double full of veggies has lost control, hit a large road sign which has sliced open the side of his rear container. The side of the truck has been cut off and that and all the veggies have fallen on the house below. Fortunately apart from the fence and maybe a few tiles the house looks okay under the pile of produce. Hardly salad days though.

In other news however, had a bit of a stack near the chicane on the M4 path at Holroyd No real damage done, just some battle scars on the knees, elbow and hips.

Let me guess, underpass with those slippery joins between the concrete sections? Dangerous in the wet! Hope you mend quickly.tez001 wrote:had a bit of a stack near the chicane on the M4 path at Holroyd No real damage done, just some battle scars on the knees, elbow and hips.
I got a full 80km today without much rain, just moderate showers when I left and it was dry the rest of the ride.

That was me who came a cropper on those joints and just as i picked my self up and straightened my handlebars another rider came down the slope and crashed along side me as it was treacherous that morning with just the right amount of damp. I contacted Parra council, the RTA and reported it on the Bicycle Info thing for reporting crook infrastructure but it is no different. I take it really easy now and try and ride 90 degrees to the joints.g-boaf wrote:As you come past the sporting fields (past the Caterpillar service agent), you go down through an underpass, and as you do - the path has some joins running across it at an angle, those joins have been sealed, but whatever they used is slippery as sin the moment it gets even slightly wet. I think it was someone here who came unstuck at that point ages back. Ever since, I've always given that area some respect (though I rarely go that way).
Regarding the weather. What a day! Long may it continue.

Was the same on the coast. Rode to the Northern Beaches and the Church Point and it was very wet. Very inaccurate forecast!tez001 wrote:Thought today was going to be light showers. You went out at the wrong time - I had a nice warm 100km ride around the local streets and Parramatta. I hope your prediction for the weather holds up for tomorrow.tez001 wrote:Thought today was going to be light showers. Really felt the ride about 1/2 way on the return leg, but I'll survive. Also got to test my new Suunto Ambit2; no more estimating the time from the clock on the wall and entering my ride into Google Maps by hand when I get home!
