Road Bike

Postby ningnangnong » Wed Mar 21, 2007 9:13 pm

G'day everyone, i'm new to the forum.

Anyway, i've been thinking about buying a road bike. Just recently got into cycling, have a mountain bike at the moment. Nothing to flash.

Yeh, so, what would be a good road bike to start on, nothing to expensive.

I'm about 100-110kgs, all muscle of course.
190cm

Anyways, advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Cheers for the reply mate.

Shall take on that advice.

Are there any bikes you can recommend?

It really depends on your budget as to what people might advise. Where are you if it's OK to ask?
Newcastle.

Have a dig through the forum mate. This question has been answered many times in quite a few different ways.

Basically, go to a lot of shops.
Look at and ride a lot of bikes.
You'll find that the initial confusion clears and you'll have some specific questions which we'll find easier to answer.

I know this sounds like a cop out, but seriously, there are a lot of answers to this question on the board already.

Whatever you do, buy the bike you fall in love with. If you aren't in love, keep looking. The best second hand buys are bikes that were bought for 'rational' reasons ... because they aren't ridden much.

You haven't mentioned what your budget is so it's hard to recommend a bike.

I only took up riding around 4 months ago. My first bike was a secondhand Shogun Mach 3 converted to drop bars. I didn't want to spend too much money at first, not until I knew I was hooked. Well, i knew I was hooked in 3 weeks so I went out and bought a 07 Cervelo Soloist and couldn't be happier. I find it very comfortable (did 160km Otway Classic on it with no discomfort at all), fast and it is also extremely good looking (which I think is very important cause every time I look at it I just want to get out and ride).

Also got my brother into cycling recently and since he was on a tighter budger than I was, we decided to get him a Giant OCR1, with Shimano 105 groupset and Shimano wheelset. He absolutely loves it.

Go to bike shops, check out lots of bikes, compare prices, ride bikes and buy the bike that appeals to you most, is comfy and well fitted to you.

Cheers,
Tom

G'Day there, ningnangnong, welcome :)

Apart from everything else posted here, WHAT exactly are YOU seeking to gain from cycling? should be your first thought. By road bike do you mean a full noise racer, something that looks like a full noise racer but is more suited to old farts like me , a flatbar roadie, a tourer or cyclocross frame? All these bikes will do the job in their own way.

You're a pretty big unit at 190cm, make sure the fit is bang on or you won't want to ride much, a tragedy you'd agree.

Good luck and have fun searching.

Shaun
