Sunshine Coast

Postby PDR » Fri Apr 18, 2014 12:36 pm

Hi,
I moved over from England at the start of last year and have only just recently got back on a bike. In England I raced. I am 20 years old and live in Caloundra. I ride to work in Maleny each weekday and am now looking for some weekend rides to help improve fitness and do a bit of socialising. I have been looking around on the net and have found that rides go from bowman road each day but have found 2 different times. 5.30am and 6 am. I am just wondering which is the correct time and what other rides are around and what clubs are in the area. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

It could be what most groups do Paul, they have a slow and fast group time. :)

+1, i don't know about the Caloundra rides in particular but i'd bet London to a brick the 5:30 start is for the guns and 6 is for the mere mortals.

From memory, bowman rd is the bike shop yes? I did some rides with those guys a while back. They stuck me with the B group, and when I smashed the b group in the first open sprint section and found myself waiting at the regroup point for minutes, the A group came by from the longer route and told me to jump on the back!
It was the wildest ride of my life as they ran a pace line up past the university and around the back of mooloolaba before returning via the coastal roads and back down Nicklin Way.

I enjoyed riding from Golden Beach up to Noosa & back when I was there (my parents had an apartment there until recently, but that was solo. The shop rides I went on were mid-week smash fests, not social outings.

Rather than start a new thread...

I am based at Mount Coolum and looking for riding groups for weekend rides. They seem to be either Noosa or Maroochydore/Kawana way...any in the middle?

Any ideas?

Thanks and see you out there!

I'm at Mt Coolum at the moment too, and the only group rides i know of start either further south or further north. I reckon it's worth hopping in the car or getting up earlier to go up to Noosa for rides, there's a really nice bunch that leaves from Raw on Gympie Terrace at 5:30 on Sundays.

Check with Bob at Coolum Cycles at Seachange. There used to be a bunch riding from Coolum but I haven't seen them of late.

Ok Sunshine Coasters... I have had three incidents with Sunbus in six months. All reported to Sunbus and the usual lipservice provided. I have asked for someone to call me by COB tomorrow or I will report latest to Police.

I am considering taking this to the Sunshine Coast Daily (have a contact) so would anyone else have any incidents or would be happy to join me for an article re bike safety and safe passing legislation?

Whatever you do, for the love of god DO NOT go to the Daily! They have an appalling record of inflammatory anti-cycling articles that do nothing but make life more dangerous for every cyclist on the coast, i wouldn't trust them as far as i could kick them. Just go straight to the police if you have video of the incident. As i found recently, no video, they will not do anything at all.
