Around the River

I plotted this based on the Department of Infrastructure:

Any thoughts? Any feedback (what to avoid, is it busy etc etc) would be great as I am planning to do this for the first time.

Looks good...pretty much the Great Bike Ride route....let me know when you are planning on riding it and if you are looking for someone to tag along.

Looks like my Saturday group ride

The only suggestion would be to avoid south perth foreshore and riverside drive like the plague (particularly if you are staying on the shared paths) too many peds, tourists etc and the paths are pretty ordinary through these sections.

If you want to keep the distance, carry on from the raffles down to the next bridge then cross and come back up the freeway path.
The trouble with jogging is that the ice falls out of your glass

Not a problem. Gotto warn you, I'm a noob at all this. Just commute each day home from work. So this is going to be a mammoth effort for me. But I'm up for it.

Are you talking about crossing Mt Henry Bridge? Is it possible? I've never done it before.

One thing I've been using besides google maps (or google earth), is www.whereis.com.au Been using this site for higher quality images. Excellent for spotting bike paths.

Yes it is possible. Underneath there are two paths, one on either side of the bridge.

its a very nice ride looping around the canning river between the canning and mt henry bridges. well worth it.

the south of river looks a little different from what we to do, maybe there are some bicycle paths now I don't know about.

1) You couldn't get onto riverside drive from stirling bridge, we had to nip up a steel little hill above the left bank, and onto preston point drive, then onto point walter rd to the spit.
2) rode along burke drive
3) took the strand at majestic, nisbett, duncraig, canning beach rd to raffles
4) looped around canning, ditch perth water

North of river:
1) turn into the avenue from hackett drive, then birdwood, jutland.
2) got to do the last bit of jabe dodd hill past the bowling club, then onto bay view terrace
I have a cunning plan, as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University

+1. Not sure if the route you've got plotted works, but I'm pretty sure it didn't last time I tried a couple of years ago ;)

Cheers,

Pretty much did this exact ride today except I cut across the narrows and ducked into the bike shop on the way home. :) I did it anti clockwise and the hill near meads/swan canoe club is very intense and made me work very hard in the heat. :) Only averaged 22 but was a very enjoyable ride. Got a flat between canning bridge and the narrows. Had a spare tube and co2 so it was all good :D

I did the city to freo circle for the 1st time today. We did it anti clockwise. Great scenery and some nice hills do work with. No more riding up and down the freway for me.
