My guess is that it will be asphalt looking at the heights, the compacted material was road base.
No need to guess the other end is already black between the edges.
Gas propulsion.......it's natural don't fight it.

That's it then. Can't see a good reason for riding to Samford via Samford road and dicing with the traffic between Ferny Grove and the climb.

I didn't mind the dirt, but I'm getting the feeling that I'm going to just love the upgrade.

Sounds like a great win for commuting in Brissie

looks like a pretty decent hill, might definitely be worth a detour when it opens.

We just need more of these routes connecting to other routes. So many new bike lanes only travel for a few hundred metres then dump you back in the traffic! This route is completely out of the traffic though!

Yeah should be all sealed now. I rode out there last Monday and they juuuuuust let us pass through. They had the machinery there putting down the tar and asphalt.

We were the last to ride the fabled dirt of the Lanita Track.

On a side note: you could always head up the Goat Track for your fix of dirt. It's a cracker.

The Lanita track section of the rail trail must be close to finished by now. An article in the North-West News announces that not all cyclists will use it. I would worry about lots of fallen eucalypt branches and leaves (which of course, the council would do nothing about), forcing a faster rider to slow down considerably. I was hoping they would go for a bike lane up the range, but the locals had their say and elected for the path through the bush.

For me, it all depends on the time of day.
Sunrise ride to Mt Mee = take the main road and keep everyone single file.
Midday cruise to the Goat Track = take the trail and enjoy the scenery.

You can't please everyone I suppose

It's not "officially" open but, everybody is already passing through there regardless. I've "un-officially" used it twice over the Xmas period.

I've seen a lot of aggression from drivers on Samford Rd where it narrows. I think I'd take the new trail even if it's out of the way.

The article looks to be written to provoke the usual animosity between us and the rest of the community.

Personally Latina rd and the rail trail was and still will be my personal preference over Samford rd.

Progress as of today. Saw a number of other cyclists using it even though it's not officially open. All the guard rails are amusing... Are they worried people are going to ride off the edge?

Standard butt covering measures in a society where everything is a 'class action' unfortunately

Wonder if less horse riders will use it now (I assume horses don't like walking on asphalt much). Good for the train station commuters though.

Ha agreed, I went through yesterday and the base layer of tarmac at either end was seeping some sort of gasoline type fluid, not sure if it was due to the sun on it or its like that until they seal it...

I'm hoping to get out there on Saturday to have a look.

So I'd appreciate it if some could cover that pre-coat with some asphalt, I've got a KOM to try to beat. [emoji13]
