Was browsing around the web trying to find some data for resistance training to augment cycling, and found this u beaut link at the Dean Woods web store. You can click on each of the links and it opens to the text.

I use diesel too (well, as a cleaner for mucky bits when I'm rebuilding old bikes). I started because it was all I had, and I haven't had any reason to change.MichaelB wrote: ... Interesting that the guide mentioned using diesel oil (I presume he means diesel fuel) as a cleaning agent !! ...

Diesel is kinder on rubber components ... but there aren't many of them in a push bike drive train. It's also safer than kero and that might be why it was suggested. Like kero, it leaves a coating when it evaporates which helps prevent corosion. Petrol is dangerous to use and evaporates completely which is why it's not such a good choice.
