Rode McCarrs this morning, and there are electronic signs saying overnight work is starting on 5/9 - hopefully this is to fix the potholes.

Yes I saw that sign on Tuesday. Also note that just past green bin corner heading to Church Pt there was a rectangular steel grate which had been dislodged and was a few metres away hole. Both would be dangerous if you hit them.

Bin corner outbound lane from Church Point has been resurfaced, inbound lane still to be done.

Heads up - not sure if this has been mentioned or is new or not. Apparently a steel plate on the road towards Church Point just after Bakers Rd

This is the hole that was covered or more accurately the earlier attempted repair The rapid response team was there yesterday morning brainstorming a solution.

I call the green bin corner on McCarrs Creek Road "Dutch Slide", which infact covers both corners.

Rode it for the first time today and it is a delight. For safety it was necessary anyway but simply being able to ride this area without the potholes and debris is a positive step forward.

My riding buddies asked "so Chris, this is your road" :)

I will be writing to thank the council and to encourage resurfacing for the rest of the road!

Perfectly natural and best to ease into it. This resurfacing is only a very small (but important) glimpse of beautiful cycling... and if they fixed the rest of McCarrs Creek Road it would be brilliant.

Get well!

Got a report from a friend that someone dropped tacks in McCarrs Creek Road near the bus U-Turn location. I suggested that they get photos and report it to the police but heard nothing further and was rained out so didn't see for myself.

Broader community input is sought for the Mona Vale Draft Plan. This is a good opportunity to ensure transport options are considered - i.e. cycling future for this northern beaches hub.

Just got an email from NB Council regarding the Bike Plan review (originally for Warringah Council).

Seems that something is underway, not exactly sure what but could be encouraging.

Yes - it was a real disappointment attending the Warringah Council bike plan event and to get the followup within the week (on request) that the data / results / info wouldn't be collated and there would be no action - everything was stopping and the key person driving it was no longer continung in that position because of the merger. In contrast, the Pittwater council were active because progress is progress and they knew it was not lost through the pending merger - rather continuing the cycle strategy would give it a better chance to survive.

The whole Northern beaches needs improvement - so would be good to see this get back on track again.

Some further details but still some questions in my mind:

http://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/s ... 161216.pdf

Some dead end bike paths on the map and for me the real question is how safe some of the existing bike paths are.

BUT - good to see something happening!

SMH has an article. But I like the comments on knitting together the existing inner west and western Sydney paths, ones that could be used for transport.

That wasn't my comment by the way...

Woman dies following cycling crash - Kuring-gai

Sunday, 18 December 2016 02:39:01 PM

A brief will be prepared for the Coroner following the death of a cyclist at Kuring-gai this morning.

About 10am (Sunday 18 December 2016), a small group of cyclists was travelling southbound on Mona Vale Road.

Police were told a Toyota Corolla sedan travelling north on Mona Vale Road, has collided with the 33-year-old female rider, at the intersection of Woodlands Avenue.

The woman was seriously injured and died at the scene. The other riders were not injured.

The 37-year-old male driver of the car will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

A crime scene was established and Crash Investigation Unit attended.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.

R.I.P.

Based on the news stories, it appears the driver turned right to enter Woodlands Ave across the cyclists who would have been travelling down hill at a decent speed.
