Is everyone OK?

Postby Lark2004 » Mon Nov 17, 2008 7:23 pm

Just checking to see how everyone faired in yesterdays strom.

We lost power but it was restored about 6 hours later, which seems to be pretty quick in relation to how long some were out for, and also in light of some still not having any power.....

Luckily we didn't suffer any property damage, I just saw the news reports on what happened to The Gap

I don't think so....... I saw houses and motels de-roofed in the Ascot/Hamilton area back in 85. That was one hell of a storm too..... but I really don't think you pin this on climate change.

My sister and brother-in-law's house (Keperra) got damaged in this storm - so I don't wish misfortune on anyone, but we'll just have to wait and see how many and how severe storms there are over the course of the summer

I'm all good the CBD and New Farm missed the worst.
It was one hell of a storm though and very fast moving.

Four sets of downed power lines in our suburb = power out for 14 hours. No damage to our house or cars though, so happy about that. I didn't see the reports about The Gap, but having grown up there, I can only imagine the damage.

Some poor girls living across from Northey St City Farm had to bucket water out of their cars (however i dont know if they realised they were all in their pj's)...

Where i live is fine, no problems... (Northside - near newmarket)

Friend had his car crushed by a tree...

yeah it was up to the bus shelter seats... looks pretty hardcore. downey park also looked pretty wet... il be happy when they fix the ICB because its really stuffing up traffic... apparently 11 megalitres of water in the ICB, so might take a little time...

Took me over 2 hours to get across town today (from Geebung to Darra).

Went through town due to ICB being closed and then just sat on the Centenary motorway for ages due to flooding. If I had of known before I set out I would of gone the long way around.

Annoying thing was sitting there and seeing all the cyclists whizz by on the bikeway! I was so jealous.

You've been having a bad run lately with your fight with the metal cage a couple of weeks back and now the mud wrestling :(

in OTHER news - How totalled is brisbane ATM?
i went for a tiny slow ride today to get my strength back and WOW! Brisbane is pwn'd. broken branches, sticks, various debris literally everywhere. My street got flooded, as did my band room. and i have a massive fallen tree (care of my neighbour) in my backyard that killed my hills hoist, our fence and at least 3 of my trees and i felt special, but it is pretty typical of the western and inner northern.

i am taking corners so slow. so scared of mud and dirt. i am suddenly a massive pussy. it sucks. hopefully i get my awsmness back soon.

Found this on my ride the other day. The whole path was trashed, mud an inch deep, branches and dreck everywhere. There was even a footbridge that was barely on its foundations anymore, as the creek below it had pounded it with downed trees and mud etc.

Image

After getting off my bike, walking past the tree, and going up the path beyond the bridge, I decided it was safer to ride home on main roads. :)
