A huge congratulations must go to Stuart O'Grady for his win in the one day classic Paris-Roubaix race yesterday. The race known as the "Hell of the North" is over 259km with 53km of that over the famous cobblestones. Look out for it on SBS television in the coming weeks, as they often screen the major cycling races on a Sunday morning.

I was impressed in that he made the move with 240km to go, and he averaged over 42km/hr for the race !!!! :shock:

I was reading the article in today's SMH and thought it pretty funny the winner gets a 3kg cobblestone for his efforts.

In races such as the Tour de France, if the days stage was through a famous cheese region (for example), the locals will often present the winner of the stage with his weight in cheese. I'd much rather win a stage where the region is known for its chocolate or wines.

Articles say 24 or 25 km, not 240km - but that's still a long time to hold a break.

Stuart O'Grady conquered the dry cobbles of the 105th Paris-Roubaix to become the first ever Australian in the race's top-three. The 33 year-old Team CSC man put in his bid for freedom with 240 kilometres to go when he formed part of an early 30-plus man escape. After watching his rivals all day he decided to show his cards in a solo attack with over 20 kilometres remaining.

Maybe it means something different ?

Either way, he did amazing things !!!

Ah, that's just an early attack, one of many throughout the race. The definitive solo attack came in the final 23km.
