What sort of life can I expect from my R500's? They have around 12000km on them at the moment. They get ridden in all weathers as I use the bike as my commuter.
Sorry if this is an old question but I've searched the forums and drawn a blank - I really can't drive the search function here that well.

How long is a piece of string?rgcrgc wrote:Thanks. However I realise I should've been more specific , I actually meant the rims in particular.
They're pretty heavy though cheap rims. Clean them down every now and then, and in the process you will notice any cracking, esp around the spoke holes. If they're not visibly damaged and the braking surface isn't caving in you're fine.
If you want new rims, they're not expensive either.

Should be able to replace them for less than $300.Bnej wrote:If you want new rims, they're not expensive either.

R500 are $129.99 on Torpedo7 weekly special according to email just received.
Might be a chance to get a new set at the right price.

Reading the Shimano website I note the R500's have wear indicators - unfortunately they don't say where or what I am looking for .
I looked at a new set of R500's today and noticed two small indentations on the braking surfaces under the "S" of the Shimano sticker - are these the wear indicators?
If not, where are they and what am I looking for?
If so, and if these same indentations are missing from my rims, does this indicate "CHANGE RIMS NOW" or "change rims soon but don't panic".
My apologies if I seem to be banging on about this but, as is probably obvious, I don't know a great deal about this stuff and, being not exactly awash with funds at the moment, I don't want to unneccessarily spend cash on new wheels (especially as I recently had the front fully respoked).
Tnx rgc
