Hi new here, looking for some info on my old mans 2 star malvern star I don't have a camera I can post with, so hopefully I can explain it.
It has numbers stamped on the steel near the seat post like this

It has pedal backward brakes, 2 stars on the head-stock?, a star on each side of the fork tubes, a pump holder, no numbers on the frame at the back axle and a rear frame piece is bolted in that goes from the rear axle to the back of the seat.
I have just finished his cyclops push scooter and decided to look into his old pushy. It's all there but pretty rough. Are any parts available?

Pre 1930 Malvern Star serial numbers
you would have determined it was a 1948 Melbourne built frame
(I accept that the frames identified extend well beyond the Pre1930 nominated period, and the dates require some hard work... perhaps there are enough frames identified to provide a summary thread)
by looking at this thread
Researching your retro ride and cycling history
and then at Trove you would have found this advertisement

I know it,s an old post but I got held up restoring a cyclops scooter but now time for the star.
I have decided to "rat" the bike with a few custom bits will post as I go through it.
First up I tore the beast down and have wire brushed off the 30 coats of paint this will be the finished look, bare steel.
During the tear down procedure I noticed that the rollers in the crank are not a full coverage of the race so how many should be on the 2 sides, and the same question for the steering head are the top and the bottom identical in size or slightly different and how many ? I have stored them in different containers they look to be the same size.

Well I won't answer the last post as I hope he has found the answer by now, but I thought I might add some photos here of a recent Malvern Star build. It is pre 1939 so before 2 star, 3 star but a 2 starred frame as was the style then. Serial number 65667 suggests about 1936? It is 27inch without the bolt on rear stays of the 28 inch roadsters.
The rusty frame came to me as a gift if I could remove the major taylor style stem that was rusted in it and give that back. I was not hopeful but it came out easily. The rusted cranks had to be cut off but I was able to save the bsa chainring. There were no other parts except headset...also heavily rusted.
After sandblasting, repairing some rust holes and some paint.........and after loads more work and some decals and mucking with pinstriping ...gradually achieving something passable
and with assembled parts, the finished bike rides beautifully.

yes, after practicing for a while with an old frame. I am not very good at it at all. I was using a pinstriping wheel which makes it easier and I used a water based acrylic for the lining which made it easy to remove mistakes on the enamel. Clearcoat to finish and seal.

Very nice indeed koen. It must be a beautiful sight when you take it for a spin. It does look like it would ride beautifully as you say. It's now ready for another 70 years service.

Owen, I am now appreciating the effort you have made to match the bike colours to the bin lids.

I'll have to look into that (pinstriping wheel). I like how the rear brake cable seems to emerge from the end of the top tube spear point.
