EDIT DATE NOW TUE 30 DEC - Point Hut Crossing to Corin Dam

If anyone's interested I'm looking at a ride from Point Hut Crossing (starting at the picnic spot reserve) up to Corin Dam on Sat 30 Nov starting at 8am. The Corin Dam road was part of Fitz's Epic, having done the Challenge I'm interested in seeing what I missed out on

Ride is about 66km return (according to Bikely).

I've only ridden this once, and only as far as Corin Forest, and I recall a long hard slog up followed by an awesome high speed descent.

Hrm, maybe I bit off more than I can chew... I only really wanted to do the Epic part, is it possible to ride to the Dam? I guess I should have done a recon drive before I suggested this.... still it's on the internet know so it's a matter of public record. (Damn that dam)

Yep - the road runs all the way to the dam. About six or seven k's on from Corin forest.

What's your long term average speed/fitness level/climbing rate?

It tooks so long to work out... and after I'd commented about the bricks too, I realised who you were after your post about the panniers and the bricks. You were faster up the first hill, and I'm getting a new rear cassette this week which should seriously hamper hill climbing over what I'm used to

Unfortunately / fortunately ride is off for me as I've managed to secure a spot in a Hartley team so on Saturday will be climbing to Charlottes Pass. Only really just got confirmed with a uniform last night.

I didn't get any other responses, if you want to give it a shot another weekend I'll be in, otherwise enjoy the climb

Well - didn't make it to the dam... and didn't start from Point Hut either. I conned a mate into coming for the ride and we drove to Corin Road for the start. But I did get an upper-body work out after the ride - the power steer belt snapped about 100m from Corin Road, so I had to drive 50km home without power steering

But what a blast

We ended up stopping about 3km past Corin Forest - my reading of the google maps was crap - the dam is about 12km from Corin Forest. Total climbing to the top of the hill is over 500m, and if you make it to the dam wall, it's about another 400m back up to the top.

1:20 to get to Corin Forest (including 6km loop over the other side).... 20 minutes to reach the bottom

And : the guy I was riding with is a bit touchy about his climbing ability these days (39-53 with a 12-27 cassette), so I did the whole climb in the 36 ring, never dropped below the 21 cog, and did almost all the climbing in the in the 19 cog. This means I will be able to easily do this ride on my new bike with 39-53/12-25. Also means I will need reinforced panniers to cope with the bricks that people keep on threatening to put in them

Mind you the climb up to Charlottes Pass was quite nice too, even with hail, winds, rain and a puncture. Actually it was freaking awesome. Hartley Challenge is a must for any Canberra cyclist!!

Mate and I were planning on doing it again on the 14'th, but all the way to the dam this time.

But you might be able to twist my arm for the 6'th, 7'th or 13'th.... but perhaps starting from Corin Road.

Edit: Make that the 7th or the 13'th. 6'th is out. Or people can join us for the 14'th... but it will be a bit slow.

Idiot in the bay dropped a 25kg weight on my finger resulting in a crush fracture... ain't been on the bike since before Xmas

Hope to get back on this weekend if I can work the brake lever and gears!
