I've got the next couple of weeks off, travelling to WA for a holiday.

I've just realised that I will be in Margaret River on the weekend of April 7/8, and the Paris-Roubaix will be televised a couple of hours earlier in WA than on the East Coast.

Woo Hoo!

Cracker of a race last night. Great win by Terpstra, and brilliant 2nd by Pedersen. Glad he wasn’t caught.

Some nasty stacks and poor old Sep - just wasn’t his day, but still finished well.

Quickstep are just monstering the classics season so far !!

Shades of Hoogerland seeing Mitch Docker in the fence

It was good enough that Keenan’s keening whine didn’t ruin it for me; I could only get SBS down here. Gotta feel for Sagan at times, McEwan was spot on observing that if the group chased Terpstra the way they chased Sagan to race for 3rd they may well have caught him. I think Benoot felt the same way. GVA seems to have accepted Quickstep’s dominance and given up.

And Van Aert continues to impress in a big way.

Now to see what Roubaix can deliver. Will it be a wet race for a change ?

Sadly, I may get to see it from the lounge after our scheduled Vietnam trip will be cancelled as the wife is too crook to travel. She'll be OK, but just really floored badly by a virus :-(

darn straight - not just winning but 3 more riders in the chase group.

I find it amusing to hear Sagan & his DS whining about how other teams won’t ride to suit him & make up for the lack of support from his team

Tom Boonen: Peter Sagan needs to 'keep his mouth shut' over lack of cooperation from rivals. Sure Boonen is not exactly neutral, being close to the Quickstep team, but he agrees with me so he must be right!

I find it amusing how successful Quickstep have been since Boonen retired.

Terpstra just lost the fat according to his doctor. Where have I heard that argument before? Perhaps Quickstep should stick to the strength in numbers narrative for their success in the classics.

Sagan wasn't whining. He was answering questions in his usual nonchalant honest way. And what he said is true. Terpstra went off the front and rode away to win the race and all the other riders and teams just watched him. Sagan went off the front 10 minutes later and it was a mad panic chase to bring him back. Then they all sat up again. As Sagan said, "I'm not the only rider in the race". Absolutely a fair comment.
P-R will be interesting on Sunday. Team numbers wont be as important. The man with the best legs will win. I'm not saying that's Sagan. But it will make it harder for Quickstep to dominate on the pave.

What are you implying? Terpstra has always been a great rider.

I thought they had done better in the classics since they stopped wasting their money on Cavendish.

Agree with you on that - numbers have usually been whittled down to a select group by the last 100 k. Part of what makes the race so interesting is that it is unpredictable. No-one should write off Sagan, GVA or any of the other 10 or so riders that have a good shot, depending on how things go & who has the best legs on the day.

Quicksteps dominance was their undoing. Sagan goes off the front and all the other teams look to Quickstep to chase him. They decide not to. Game over.

As you said, the man with the best legs won - & his team did a bunch of work keeping him safe - Juraj Sagan and Marcus Burghardt were active on the front. I was impressed Dillier, after working hard in the break, had the strength to stay with Sagan all the way to the end.

I know it's after the event but here's a link to GCN's course preview of some of the cobble sections if of interest:

While Sagan was a very worthy winner I thought Dillier's was the ride of the day.

Very sad news about Michael Goolaerts.

I'm ashamed to say it, I didn't last :( Hit the wall at about 70km to go, so I'll have to watch it tonight.

Well done for Sagan and Dillier - in the break all day and 2nd !! Shades of the ride at Flanders by Pedersen.

Looked like some nasty crashes - is Goolaerts recovering ? Sounds like he will be OK due to some quick treatment. EDIT : Just read that he passed away :( Sad news indeed.

Updates on Trentin ?

Will have to wait another year for a wet Roubaix :?
