Need a reason to not vote Liberal in Victoria?

Meanwhile, Mr Guy vowed to tear up a plan to build a three-kilometre missing link in the popular off-road cycling trail alongside Beach Road, siding with locals who do not want to see any of the arterial road narrowed.

Under a plan developed by the Kingston City Council in Melbourne’s south-east, a 3.2-kilometre stretch of Beach Road will be narrowed to make space for a new cycling and walking path along the foreshore.

The council’s plan is meant to preserve vegetation along the foreshore, but will require the loss of 17 parking spaces, and a reduction by up to one metre in the width of Beach Road, a four-lane carriageway.

VicRoads has approved the council plan.

He said a narrower Beach Road would be less safe and more congested.

"I’m sick to death of seeing roads being narrowed across Melbourne when we are the fastest growing city in Australia," he said.

Says all that needs to be said. He's still living in the fifties that never were.

And what's equally telling is that, when I looked, The Age is only showing two "we want more roads" comments. Click on more and they're two of four such comments, the remaining dozen being either anti or asking whether this is the best way to spend money.

A lot of locals don't want it narrowed, they can see the problems with the design.
As a (sometimes) Beach Rd cyclist, having seen what is proposed, it will not be an improvement for those of us training along there.
If you want to be on a shared path with pedestrians walking two and three abreast with their dogs on long leads, if at all, then it may be an improvement.

Yes. The issue is complex and there are a fair few cycle groups against the plan in it current proposal.

But in Victoria we don't need a reason to not vote Liberal. Mathew Guy really is currupt as hell. Basically he is in the pocket of developers. Fisherman's bend rezoning is even worse than the docklands. All about windfall gains for developers. No planning of ANY infrastructure of other social facilities....

Personaly, I'd be a little bit careful about defaming the bloke in a public forum but that's just me.

His own actions on public record do a far better job of defaming him than my comments on a public forum.

That too.... It isn't a good look. And honestly no surprises. Though I don't think any quid-pro-quo was obvious there.

The quid is completely obvious in his previous role as planning minister. It cost the state dearly and in many cases quite measurably.

That's just a little disturbing

There are many reasons not to vote for the Liberals in any election :)
