heart rate

Postby ShanDog » Thu Apr 26, 2007 7:40 am

I've seen a few times in different posts about how people try to remain at certain heart rates and something about how this helps you do certain things, such as burning fat. I'm just interested to know the science behind this. why does you body do things such as burn fat better at certain heart rates and not others? wouldn't it be different for every person, considering all the different body sizes and shapes?

Cheers,
Shannon

It's all to do with the energy management of the body and how different energy systems release their energy store at different rates. So it's pointless to activate an energy system that can only release slowly when you are on max power (where very rapid energy use is required) for instance.

Start with Polar's spill, the most well known HRM equipment maker. Check out their "fitness" tab on the left.

Then you can find all you need to know via Google.
Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple :)
