Postby Drifter » Mon Dec 15, 2008 9:18 pm

Have been collecting parts for a while (still) and have now started construction of my first trike. Here is a picture of some of the raw materialsImage

Wheel discs.

Postby Freddyflatfoot » Tue Dec 16, 2008 10:29 am

Oooooohhh! Wheel discs. very nice. Thinking about using them?
I just made up some corflute wheel discs for my trike.
Thos hubs alone are well worth what you paid for the wheelchair, even if you don't use the rims. Do they have hub brakes?
Cheers!

Freddy, yes the wheels are sturmey archer with drum brakes and I was able to knock the price down to $40, these are the solid tyres I was asking about before

Drifter,
Do it right the first time. Ditch the rims/solid tyres, and use either 16" or 20" rims/tyres. You got a real bargain! Those hubs alone are worth over $200 new, plus you have the axles as well!
I have those drum brakes on one of my trikes, and they are very effective brakes. You have done very well indeed.
Cheers!

Yeah, What a fantastic buy!! I can see another quality part there also, the sealed bearing king pin assembly used as the front wheel castor system (grind the whole tube assembly away and weld to new crossmember). Discard the castor wheel and weld your axle assembly to the kingpin. :D

Looks good!!, you could triangulate the boom to the upper crossmember? You are going to end up with a real nice unique spaceframe trike there.
BTW: Keep the pics coming, we love progress shots, my only concern is the main tube seems undersized, it will probably hold up but it will flex abit, could use two tubes side by side and it will be heaps stiffer in twisting and flexing.

Hi all, I have changed my mind about the tadpole I have started building and am changing to a delta. I found one I like the look of at this site. - http://personal.eunet.fi/pp/davinci/osa5eng.html
I built a little mecano model last night to see how the steering worked and it looks fairly simple to copy.

Go have a look on the python site

http://www.python-lowracer.de/

look for Nobuo's delta in the gallery. I like that one. I think there is some u tube of it too.

The Hipparion and the pythons both use the same principal. They have positive trail and apparently can be a problem at high speeds.

I'm going to build one soon. Got to build the sociable tandem trike first. That's the next major project.

Having a problem with my saw going blunt all the time. Maybe my mate Recycler is the cause.Image

You do realise that now you have started home building it is as addictive as herion and one is never enough. I have just completed my fourth recumbent.1 Marauder clone,1 trike,1highracer and 1 SWB 26" 20" recumbent.
I have just discovered this forum so I can see I will have a few late nights reading to get up speed. It is great to read a bike forum with a australian bent(pun intended)

G'day Jeff
, addiction? don't talk to me about addiction, what about those kayaks in the background , have built over 40 now.
Know where I can get a 2 or 3 story shed.

G'day Tallywhacker, I hope you're not implying that we look old enough to be from the gas lamp era, although you would not be far from the mark. Notice that we both have the obligatory beard that all recumbent riders should have.

Don't tell me. I'm up to number nine. Just completing a Marauder reloaded and working on a TE clone for a friend.

You do realise there is a carefully worked out scientific formulae for how many bikes you need?
Number of bikes needed=N+1
with N =current number of bikes owned!
My N is currnetly 24 :D
