Tour Down Under 2009

Postby AUbicycles » Wed Jan 07, 2009 8:34 am

The Australian UCI Pro Tour - Tour Down Under 2009 is being held in Adelaide (no surprise) from the 18th to 25th of January. Unless you have been living under a rock you are already familiar that the top tour news is that Lance Armstrong is making a comeback and riding in the Tour Down Under.

We are running a little guessing competition
Who will win this years Tour Down Under?

You will need to write in the time difference between the first and second place riders - in the case that more than one person choose the same winner, the person with the closest time different wins. Wins? Yes, we have a little prize - a Premium version of the ProLog software - Log for the Serious Cyclist.

Enter the TDU guessing competition here >>

Find out more about ProLog including the free Standard edition here >>

You can stay up to date with the Tour Down Under with the official TDU YouTube channel

SBS is once again a friend to cyclists with their Cycling Central although the TV coverages is limited to two dates: 20. Jan at 6pm and 1. Feb at 12pm

If you have any other great tips to following the TDU, then lets have it!

Given all the interests in LA, how about a guess at where he'll come in the final tally?

I'm in FWIW. I don't want the Prolog tho', should I win  second place can have it.

Oh yeah. LA 4th, 2:15 down.

Not only a friend, also my father :)
My aim is to get all of the vets out of the pro team gear and into BNA Jerseys, then I will get started on the Aussie Pros.

I posted this picture in the new BNA Jersey thread:

Just in the news... Armstrong will not only rely on team support, but also gets support from 1 Police Motorcycle, 2 Police Cars, 1 Police Officer in an unmarked car and 1 Body Guard (supplied by the race organisers).

What does that mean that if he feel his lead is threatened?

Cheers

Those who threatens him will get arrested and deported if they are a Euro pro. US nationals will get sent to Gitmo while Aussies will just go back to the tail of the peloton. Kiwis can visit the local sheep farm.

When he was in the Tour, he had his own helicopter to move after the stage.

I said O'Grady in another thread but actually put Trent Lowe as my tip in this comp. Would love to see the young Aussie guys do well.

Lance - Feeling the heat

LANCE ARMSTRONG has had his first acquaintance with the furnace-like heat that often defines the Tour Down Under.

The seven-times Tour de France champion had a four-hour training ride in and around Adelaide with his Astana team yesterday. "Got up to 105 [41 degrees] here today. Insanely hot," he reported on his Twitter page.

But Armstrong did not look unduly affected by the soaring temperatures two days after his arrival. He had prepared for the Adelaide summer with a post-Christmas training camp in Hawaii before flying to Australia.

"It helps that it's dry and we're taking it pretty easy today," the 37-year-old said. "I'm doing all right for an old man. I feel like I've trained hard … and the difference will be [in] going from training pace to actually racing. No matter how much you train, the body has to adjust to that tempo."

Police cars and support vehicles shadowed the seven-rider team on their training ride.

Armstrong exchanged his "Livestrong" kit for Astana's sky-blue colours as he trained for the second time since arriving in Adelaide late on Sunday night.

Armstrong is making his much-anticipated comeback to top-level cycling at the Tour Down Under, more than three years after his last Tour de France win.

He says the main reason for his comeback is to help publicise the fight against cancer. After his training ride he wrote: "Just stopped by Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital to see some survivors and staff there. They all inspire me so much."

My pick is Allan Davis 15 sec. Would love to see Stuey win but i reckon the later he gets in his career the more his focusing on Flanders and PR. Armstrong will win a stage im guessing probably the Willunga stage or maybe the stirling stage. Would be bloody awesome if Jack Boberidge wins a stage aswell.
