Hi All,
I'll be heading down to Canberra this weekend (17/18th Jan). I will be taking the road bike down as i missed out last time i was there. I'll be staying in Yarralumla and am keen for a decent ride (say 60-80kms round trip).
Firstly can anyone suggest any routes that they recommend?
Secondly, is there anyone or any group i can jump onto for such ride?
Cheers
Simon

There's a bunch that leaves The Bike Shed in Phillip at 0630 Sat.
More details/map at the Canberra Cycling Club website (see under event info/training rides).
Vikings Cycling Club is running a graded road race Sunday morning 18/1.
I can't post urls 'cos i'm a noob... but I'm sure you can find the websites yourself.

If your staying in Yarra its a perfect starting point to do the 5 peaks if you like a bit of hill climbing. You could head to Stromlo first then across to Black mountain then Ainsle then Pleasant then Red hill & your on a small cool down back home.
Another sugestion is the Uriarra loop head out past mt Stromlo down to the Cotter turn right up Mt Macdonald then head back to Yarra when you get to Stromlo.
What ever you end up doing hope you have fun

Good luck & have good fun
Word of advise on Mt Ainsle dont go to hard to fast It can suck you in then you turn the corner near the top & it spits you out
Might see you out there as a couple of mates are doing the 200klm down in Bright the following weekend & they are desperate for some hill climbing .

Got out for a couple of rides (sort of). Attempted 4 peaks (thought i'd skip one), however 3kms into the ride i snapped the rear deraileur cable up inside the shifter so the bike was rendered unridable. The walk back was terrible seeing a lot of people on bikes passing me!
Luckily the place i was staying had a couple of really old bikes in the shed. I headed to the LBS and picked up new tubes & tyres, got them ridable and the missus and myself went for a small ride along the bike path heading towards Black Mountain. Very plesant indeed!
Apart from the mech issue, it was a very enjoyable riding experience in Canberra and we will definitely be back!
