Merida Kalahari.......dump special

Postby Lark2004 » Sat Feb 07, 2009 8:43 pm

Can you believe what some people throw out :?:

I bought this Merida at the Dakabin Trash and Treasure Market, which sells stuff that people throw away at the Dakabin Tip, just north of Brisbane.

The Merida cost me $15.00, with a busted up 8-speed Alivio groupset, and no brakes. I also got an old Diamondback with a full 7-speed Alivio groupset......also $15.00.

A bit of cleaning and swaping parts, and I have a $30.00 MTB.

I now want to get some new wheels that are disk compatible and get rid of the V-brakes.....bl**dy upgraditis

took it for little ride this morning..... about 20K along the bike paths around North Pine River.....I think I like this bike.

The seat needs to be replaced....it's one that I had hanging around doing nothing....and now I remeber why it was doing nothing, this time I'll thow it in the bin :x

Next outing I want to go and find some fire trails....

Did you 'upgrade' it with those bullhorn bars, or are they OEM?

Upgraded....

They were off a Shogun MTB that I picked up from the dump last year (it had a nice set of cranks that I wanted, and was only about 8 or 10 bucks)....I find them way more comfortable than a flat bar with bar ends.

I had a kalahari and stupidly sold it, same deal 8 speed alivio except mine came with cable disc brake front V brake rear and the rst shocks were cheap and entry level but handled my larger weight and height really well. should of kept it i really liked the frame.

Happy Birthday to me...( well, a week or two early)

I now have some Deore hubs and a set of Disk calipers. I just need to get the spokes and I can build my Disk brake wheels. 8)
