Did yer have far to come?
Postby Mulger bill » Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:42 pm
Just wondering what sort of distances members were covering on the commute.
Mine ranges from about 8km up to about 60km round trip depending on me shifts and whatever crap life throws up that cuts into ride time. I usually do the Bike/Train/bike thing, getting off at various points along the way and riding the rest.
Can't wait for the Vineyard Rd duplication to be finished. PSP all the way to the freeway. Scary as hell right now with those barriers giving no escape option.

Normally 12-16 k each way, depending on the route I take. Up hill to work, about 40 minutes in the morning traffic. Coming home 25-40 minutes depending on traffic.
Tomorrow I'm heading out to a meeting at the airport, so the commute will be ~60k round trip. I'm really looking forward to heading south for a change.

42km each way.
Ingleburn to Sydney Airport via the M5.
As much as I'd like to do it every day, the body takes a while to recover after three straight days, and the need to take "supplies" into the office prevents this from happening on more than a handfull of times throughout the year.
Occasionally if I feel good, I;ve been known to take a detour up the M7 on the way home and make it 142+km for the day.

27-30km each way depending on the route from Castle Hill in NW Sydney to St Leonards on the lower north shore. Once we have a shower at work I'll be able to do some longer/earlier starting rides in but for now I just keep it as direct as possible.

10k each way, Balmain to Gladesville. I've only been doing it since the New Year, really getting into it now. Finding it much easier now the temperature's dropped a bit.
I only do it three days a week, I have to take my little boy to daycare en route on the other two. Maybe I should get a seat on the back of the bike and stick him in that? I'd only have to take him the first couple of k's.

Looks like I win for the shortest commute - 4km if I go the shortest way! I hardly ever go that way though, only when it's raining hard. I don't really like doing long distances with a heavy backpack, so some mornings I will ride to work, drop off my stuff, then go for a longer (~40km) ride.

When I do it, 65km round trip. I tend to time my bike commutes with really hot days and head winds

Do you wrap a towel around the top tube to stop the sweat rotting Scotties frame?moosterbounce wrote:When I do it, 65km round trip. I tend to time my bike commutes with really hot days and head winds
Some impressive numbers, no doubt about that, really should total them up to see how many Ks the forum does just getting to and from...

G'day
Three regular "commutes" for me: 20 to 20 km to Anne's depending on the route (north or south of the river), 26 km home to work; 42 km Anne to work.
