rechargable rear lights

Do any of the popular rear lights(cateye/planet bike, etc) run on rechargeable AA/AAA???

Almost all of them, I'd have thought. In my experience the only issue with sticking rechargeables in a standard bike light is that unlike ordinary alkali batteries that ramp down in voltage fairly steadily rechargeables can go flat fairly suddenly, which can catch you out if you're not careful.

If it runs on Alkalines you can generally use NiMH as well. Just make sure you get high mAh ratings for your batteries - 2500mAh for AAs, I think 900 mAh for AAAs. 2500 mAh AA NiMH batteries cost about $20 for a pack of 4.
Also slow chargers tend to preserve battery life better than quick chargers.

I run with Zero lights and AAA rechargables. My lights have an indicater light that flashes red when the battery is low.
