Soggy Knicks

Postby colafreak » Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:38 pm

Hi All,

Anyone tried doing a triathlon in standard bike knicks?

I'm talking about knicks with bog-standard chamois in it, like the T7 type ones, not the 3D ones.

Do they get too soggy to be do the bike leg in?

Simple answer - YES. Go into a tri store and compare the size of the chamois in bike knicks and the triathlon pants.
Yesterday was an easy day.

Don't do it. Its a world of discomfort with a saggy bottom.

You can get tri short or suits which offer the best of all worlds.

I've raced most of my races over 2 hours in normal bike knicks, these days with bibs. the bibs sometimes feel like theyre pulling me down a bit, but if youre just thinking about racing a tri, you dont NEED tri chamois. if its hot, they'll dry quickly anyway.

I have never tried a Triathlon with bike shorts or bibs.

The chamois in the Tri shorts is much thinner than bike shorts. So much so that you don't really notice it while running (that’s the idea I guess :) ).

Jaggard make a removable insert for their Tri shorts, to provide extra padding, you can pull it out after the ride and before the run.

I just bought a nice new Scody tri suit for te brw and other triathlons on this year.

the guy at the shop said he wears a pair of speedos underneath for extra padding on tris with a long bike leg.

I would have thought that wearing an extra layer <speedos> would cause chafe and interfere with the wicking properties of the tri suit?
