WHOA!!!
Went up to Brissie the other day and man I was IMPRESSED!!!
All these nice separated cycleways up beside the highway, through to the city and they were still there on the side of the road as I went out past the city to Jindalee.
You lucky buggers!!! Where do they all go? Anywhere I can find a map of them?

that's the western freeway bike/shared path. (used to be bikes only but don't think it is anymore.)
it goes roughly from the toowong roundabout all the way to mt ommaney/sumner. i think it's pretty good but there's a few road crossings that are annoying and some would consider it pretty hilly.

cola,
I ride in Sydney and Brisbane on a weekly basis and Brisbane is great compared to Sydney when it comes to cycling infrastructure. The roads are comparatively great and the cycle paths are good as well.
One thing is that I don't like the driving in Brisbane as much as Sydney and I ride along Victoria Road during peak hour and feel safer. Might just be a weekday versus weekend thing.
You can get cycling maps from the Brisbane City Council web site.

The western Freeway Bikeway is good. It will be better when there is the link over to Mt Cootha Gardens.

+1 for this. Bridge is coming on well, shouldn't be far off finished?beauyboy wrote:The western Freeway Bikeway is good. It will be better when there is the link over to Mt Cootha Gardens.

Surprised hasn't been more accidents. Saw a woman on a bicycle today trying to get over the 3 lanes of traffic. She really took her life in her own hands, i mentally crossed my fingers and prayed for her when she started the manouvre.
Wish we had a bikeway like the western freeway bikeway on the northside of town.

The trick is to stop where the buses go at that set of lights and your bike will trigger the lights. You may have to wait 2 mins or so but that stops the 3 lanes and then you can get a clear run onto the freeway roundabout which gives you right of way.
Similar process on the return. Keen for the bridge thought

I agree. It would be nice to have a bike route running along Gympie Rd or Kelvin Grove Rd.beanspropulsion wrote:Wish we had a bikeway like the western freeway bikeway on the northside of town.
I like the West/East route from around Mitchelton to around Toombul. I feel more bike routes will be added as time goes by. I'd like to have a bike path around Lake Samsonvale - that would be cool Ok - maybe because it is so close to my place
Canberra is the best place I have seen in Australia for bike rides. Perth is great too.

+1. I live in Mitchelton and I'm applying for jobs in the CBD. It'd be nice to be able to ride there without having to take my life into my own hands!!Archenar wrote:I agree. It would be nice to have a bike route running along Gympie Rd or Kelvin Grove Rd.
