PS Kev, I'd never heard of a "Dead Whores Gap" either but that's what they call the turn around point on the ride ( at least they do on that Bikely map). I suspect a bit of tongue in cheek!

The name of the place is actaully "Dead Horse Gap".

Nothing to do with whores, no matter how much you want it to be.

Try a more aero position, or if your on a MTB, fit slicks, tri-bars, and wear the tightest lycra you can find.

I reckon we can get you down to 00:02:10 for sure.

We can also try out mid foot cleats, as discussed in this thread, although it seems to be a contentious issue.

Shaving your legs might help as well. Also, do you have a friend who lives nearby? Maybe you can commute together and take turns drafting each other?

OK, I'll take it back, I'm not hugely impressed. Until he does your Summer Holiday ride next year, Kev's a sooky la la.

I'd love to do the Summer Holiday Ride, trouble is I might throw a hissy-fit trying to get up those hills.

I'm a flat-lander. Kev90210 and hills don't mix real well.

Fastest trip home yet. Almost got 27km/h, but alas the feeling of the puke won over . Got caught by the traffic lights at the bottom of Spit Hill and did not manage to stay 40km/h+ all the way along Balgowlah Rd, so definitely room to get a bit faster.

Distance - 24.26km
Time - 00:54:01
Av Speed - 26.95kph
Av Cadence - 76
Max speed - 55.10kph
Total Ascent: 451m (according to bikely.com)
Total Descent: 493m (according to bikely.com

A 1.4km commute! If that short, you wouldn't bother with cycling shorts or Jerseys - just a healthy does of deodorant and wear a light T-shirt during your ride. I thought I had a fairly short ride at 5.5km's

After work yesterday I rode to my daughter's dance class in Putney. I left there just after 5:30 at the same time as my wife. I went left down to the river, she went right to Victoria rd. and I beat her to West Ryde shops (we were getting sushi for dinner!). From WR shops, I beat her back to home to Ermington.

So, my (partial) commute time was: faster than a car in peak hour on Victoria Rd.

Was wondering when you were going to come clean about that

Impressive figures though, and it is a nice, fast piece of road to ride.

Fast, yes, nice :? - I think not. Look where Kev is in the black cat awards this year.

I hate to see a man kicked when he's down. So in his defence, the 40% of Kev's trip off the M5 is more than capable of destroying his average.

For example, suppose he can average 40 kph on the M5 part, he still needs to do 30 kph average on the rest to get an overall 35 kph average. I'd like to see anyone here try to average 30 kph on the section from Bexley North through to Mascot, so I suspect Kev has averaged much better than 40 kph on the M5 segment.

U de man Kev - can't wait for you to get back on your bike and impress us some more.

Well I exaggerated - but only so people would realise I'm not trying to sook the man. His stack is quite a set-back and has made him nervous about racing again - so I thought a bit of ego-stroking might be excusable as long as I alluded to his down-time.

ok, no warm up and a 1:52. Shaving, drafting, lycra and aero position to come

[Edit: officially 1010m and bugger-all gradient, so according to my rough calculations *punches calc*, sated is beating me by about 7s/km.]

geez. how am i gunna drop 7sec on a 1k sprint with 4x90° corners? and then i've gotta drop that time even more to actually be in front! must work on cornering speed..

Best commute time around these parts is between 12:00am and 5:00am. The least traffic and the least squally wind. It's euphoric.
