Mudguards for giant xtc2

G'day. I'm after some mudguards, front mainly, to fit my giant xtc2. It has duke forks with no hole to attach the guard, and some I looked at today wedge up into the stem but don't stick out the front far enough. Anybody have the same bike with guards on? I don't particularly like the water getting blown back right at face height when riding in the rain.

I run homemade Neil, MacGyvered rear and a crudcatcher front , yes the front is a problem, it's near impossible to buy a decent OEM front for MTBs.

Best compromise to keep the face dry is a length of old tube opened out and suspended between the fork crown and the brake arch using zip ties, looks agricultural, does the job.

I have Topeak defenders fitted to my XTC3. Very happy with them.

Banjo, does the front one stick out in front enough. I use slicks and the water seems to come off the tyre at approx 2 to 3 o'clock and at speed it goes straight up and by the time I get to where it is in the air, it ends up in my face.
Maybe a combination with Shaun's tube add on.

Neil, the front guard sticks out far enough for me. I haven't had an issue with them. haven't had to drink mud andslush off the front wheel since. My big issue originally was getting a rear guard that stuck out far enough to protect my rack pack. I ended up with a second set of defenders. I used the front guard of the second set and attached it to the rear rack so it sticks out far enough to stop water etc coming up over the pack. Works a treat. BAck to the front guard though, while seated I can't actually see the front weel because of the guard so I guess mud from the wheel can't get me!

If you go the front defender route, put a bit of inner tube or something around the bit you stick up the fork and then tighten. This makes it a lot more grippy. Before I did this, I had a small spill when the front mudguard fell of the fork and acted as a brake.
