BNA cracks the 1 Million mark in March 2009
Postby AUbicycles » Thu Apr 02, 2009 8:33 am
Bicycles Network Australia cracked the 1 Million individual page views mark during March 2009.
We also have increasing visitor numbers - approx 125,000 for March (about 58,000 Unique).
For years we have maintained the average 8 pages per visit and 8 minutes per visit quota - which is as far as websites go, pretty good.
What does this all tell me? This community is pretty good, we have a good pool of knowledge.
The original goal was that the site is a contribution to Australian Cycling and Cycling Advocacy - it looks like it is working.
Special thanks to the moderaters - past and present who provide a genuine and valuable contribution.
And a thanks to forum members - there are a lot of visitors don't actively participate however they read, get their answers and info here - this is made possible with your discussion and contribution.
--
Recent Acheivements:
- Faster / Better site performance (still partly in work)
- New look forum with cool functions and custom styles possible
- New BNA Site (since Dec 08)
Next Steps:
- Spam prevention
- Organise new BNA Jerseys
- BNA Flyers (for your local bike shop)
- Stronger promotion of forum / topics on main BNA site
- Custom Default Forum Style
- BNA main site (continued development)
Cheers
Christopher

Work hand in hand with LBS's to provide some level of company advertising (doesn't have to be intrusive), in return - discounts from the LBS's to the members. Win-Win and can provide a grounding for relationship building between members, BNA and LBS's.
125,000 visitors per month is significant. Great work.

The forum looked really dicey for a few weeks but glad it has pulled through.

Now, from someone who fell into the mod job and still feels amazed to be here.
Thank you to all the members, you all do a bl00dy good job of moderating yourselves and each other, making my job pretty easy. It's rare that a flame thread needs hosing by me or others, suprising but refreshing.
BNA goes well beyond Christopher or any of the mod squad, and it's down to the members. All 3900+.
Big cheers to all.

Lots of forums do banners up the top and some even under post or every few posts - this is too much - I am going for the right side google advertising (as before) however have to get stuck into PHP.
On the right side I feel that it doesn't interrupt the forum experience ie. easy to ignore, though it is also easy to recognise if you are interested in the offers provided (which are contextually relevant).
Non google advertising is also welcome - though advertisers will get much better conversions / returns for the main BNA site.
Certainly happy if members suggest contacts or options for advertising - I am in for a win:win situatation so am in it for the long term - eg. only cycling related products / services.
ok - onto the next tasks!
Cheers

Having advertising on the right may have been unobtrusive in the past, however with everyones avatar and profile information on the right now, we spend more and more time looking to the right of the screen. Advantage for the advertisers of course... may just have to try some to see how it all works.
Agreed that a suitable balance is required.

You can still have the avatar and details on the left by using the 'Subsilver2' style...you can change this in the 'User Control Panel'Chanboy wrote:Having advertising on the right may have been unobtrusive in the past, however with everyones avatar and profile information on the right now, we spend more and more time looking to the right of the screen. Indeed, notification that an LBS (or e-LBS) has updated their specials.html amounts to a service!Chanboy wrote: Agreed that a suitable balance is required.
On the other hand I never want to hear "nasal delivery" ever again.

+1. I also never want to hear mention of "prostrate", or anything else advertised every 5 minutes on talk-back radio.Thoglette wrote:Indeed, notification that an LBS (or e-LBS) has updated their specials.html amounts to a service!Chanboy wrote: Agreed that a suitable balance is required.
