I'm doing it. Team of six. Going to be interesting for my first 24hr race. A road rider going to the dark side.
Yesterday was an easy day.

It will be my 1st 24 hour too, we've got two teams of 4; Doomers 1 and Doomers 2.
Should be interesting.
Thanks heaps.

The "Wok fried bacon at 6am" and "The beer at 24hrs and 10 seconds" is very tempting :D :D

You going to enter SOLO Spiz?
Think of it as footpath racing 12 times back to back, easy

I think I would die! I was thinking of going just for the bacon and beer

3 hour stints in a team of 6 wouldn't be too bad. Let me know if anyone pulls out and I might consider it. I would need to get some practice on the dirt first though. Hopefully going out with Rainer on Sunday so I'll let you know how I fare.

probably more like a 40min sprint, then rest for 3 or 4 hrs and do it again. 24hr racing is easy in a team of 6, just hope i dont get the 3am shift

if you need practice spiz then go to lithgow for the 8hr, i will probably go solo, so chuck (if he goes) and Keith will need a teammate.
Very relaxed race and a non-technical track.

For all of you first timers, you're going to LOVE it!

And you'll be blown away when you get the likes of Chris Jongerwaard, James Williamson, Peran Delacour et al tearing past, and think to yourself how they can keep up that pace!

Whoever gets the dawn lap, relish it, its a very surreal experience.

hi all, im back :)
Just a quick one as i have to unpack
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/2948320 is a lap from this morning. The fast Pro dudes were doing 44min laps  . Thats really quick.
Not really a good weekend for me, got food poisoning thanks to a dodgy supreme pizza which limited the laps i could do till i got it out of my system, let me tell you now that a night lap of 18km having to stop every 10mins to "release some fluids from your mouth projectile style" is not fun and not recomended to anyone.
I did manage to get in a lap after that on sunday morning which only resulted in a couple of Projectile stops, was still pretty fast though.
Awesome track was set, quick, flowing, not much climbing, single track heaven. Need to go back there for some fun exploration.
I think we ended up with 21 laps which put us somewhere in the middle of our group. Failry happy considering we had some "issues".
Definately in my diary to go to next year (and any event run at Sparrow), great place, but will definately be staying away from the takeway establishments there :D

Maybe a bit too much information there Don :) Takes more than a dodgy pizza to keep you of the MTB. Well done. How many of you in the team for this event?

Sorry to hear about the bali belly - not nice at the best of times. Still you did well to compete in a 24hr not feeling the best. Well done!

Bloody hell, that's a fantastic effort to do any laps feeling that crook. I'd probably be asking for a box of tissues and having a cry off the bike :-).

Also did the Mont as a first timer. What an event. Got in 26 laps for our group the 6 x males and last I saw we were traveling at 14th. Managed to do 4 laps myself, first one smashed it and finished it in just under 52 minutes. The other three were 56 minutes. As said above I will be back to do it again and also will go down there in my own time for some riding. Fantastic single track. I think every photo taken will show me with a smile on my face.

Interesting experience riding in the dark for the first time. Unfortunately for me I got the 2am lap, that is I left just after 2am and arrived back at transition at 2am. Felt like I went backwards. Would have been even faster that lap had I not hit the tree with my shoulder at 30kph coming home and thrown me off the bike.
Yesterday was an easy day.

Don, I've had food poisoning many times and it sux!!! I couldn't imagine riding in that condition so well done. Hang on Image ahh that's better.

brendancg, That 2am shift would have been tough. I haven't ridden the MTB through the bush in the dark yet. Going to give it a go soon though :D

What an excellent adventure - for those who didn't camp on the Friday - free beer and a band kept everyone amused until the sky opened up and we were treated to one hell of a storm and hours of heavy rain which really calmed the unbearable dust. Track was smooth and fast however with only the occiasonal slippery bit.

I Banged out three laps on the Sadurday but pulled the pin on my 2am double due to my incredibly sore arse. Did some more on the Sunday morning though.

No major offs in our team and a pretty good result (we're alive).
Excellent set-up, no food poisoning fortunately, but my legs are completely spent. Cold as cold getting up for the night rides after some time in the tent, but beautiful once you were in the forest.

Definitly in the calendar for next year.
Thanks heaps.
